In this role, you will focus on building intuitive and accessible user interfaces to simplify the flow for adding events to our system, ensuring that customers can seamlessly integrate their data into LaunchDarkly’s platform.

As an L4 Frontend Engineer, you will lead the development of frontend systems that prioritize usability, accessibility, and scalability. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to create visual interfaces and workflows that allow users to interact with their data effectively. This role emphasizes a strong focus on frontend best practices, mentoring teammates, and contributing to the broader frontend organization by driving consistency and technical excellence.

If you are passionate about frontend development, creating user-centric designs, and enabling seamless data integrations, we’d love to have you on our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical Design & Implementation:
    • Design and implement scalable, user-friendly workflows for adding events to our system, enabling downstream features like Experimentation and Release Guardian.
    • Develop accessible and intuitive user interfaces for event and data management using modern frontend technologies.
    • Lead the delivery of impactful frontend features, optimizing performance for complex data handling and visualization tasks.
  • Code Quality & Team Impact:
    • Drive alignment on code quality standards for the team and enforce them through code reviews and feedback.
    • Improve code comprehension, reusability, and observability to enhance maintainability and scalability.
    • Proactively address service health issues by refactoring inefficient code and implementing forward-thinking remediations.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration:
    • Mentor teammates to eliminate areas of uncertainty and provide guidance on technical decisions.
    • Lead the decomposition of complex projects to facilitate incremental delivery and provide reliable project estimates.
    • Actively participate in team discussions, driving alignment and fostering a collaborative environment across time zones.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to ensure seamless integration and delivery of frontend solutions.
    • Author technical specifications and one-pagers for projects of significant complexity and scope.
    • Work directly with customers and support teams to diagnose and resolve production issues as needed.
  • Standards & Leadership:
    • Drive consistency in frontend practices across the organization, advocating for best practices in accessibility and system design.
    • Lead projects of large scope, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 6+ years of professional frontend development experience, with a focus on building scalable, data-intensive applications.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React).
    • Expertise with charting libraries (e.g., VisX, D3.js, or similar).
    • Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and commitment to building inclusive user interfaces.
    • Experience with performance optimization for data-heavy applications.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of mentoring teammates, leading complex projects, and driving alignment on technical decisions.
  • Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and engage with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and scalability challenges using tools like data analysis and internal dogfooding.
  • Observability: Experience improving the observability and operability of frontend systems.
  • Documentation: Ability to author detailed technical specifications and one-pagers for large-scale projects.

Developers can target product experiences to any customer segment and maximize the business impact of every feature. And by gradually rolling out new application components, they escape nightmare "big-bang" technology migrations.

The LaunchDarkly platform was built to guide engineers to the next frontier of DevOps by:

  • Improving the velocity and stability of software releases, without the fear of end customer outages
  • Delivering targeted experiences by easily personalizing features to customer cohorts
  • Maximizing the business impact of every feature through the ability to experiment and optimize
  • Coordinating the release and optimization of software to provide consistent experiences across mobile platforms and device types
  • Improving the effectiveness and productivity of engineering teams, by providing insights into engineering cadence and stability
