We're seeking out the founder of our Data Platform team to architect and build Alloy's next-generation data platform from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to establish and lead the technical vision for our entire data ecosystem. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you'll drive Alloy's data strategy and platform delivery, working closely with our CTO, Product & Engineering leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to transform our data capabilities into a competitive advantage.
You'll architect a scalable, high-performance data platform that empowers engineering teams, product groups, client success teams, and executives to make faster and more informed decisions. What you'll be doing
As the founding engineer, you will lay the foundation for Alloy’s data infrastructure and drive the technical vision for our next-generation data platform. Your responsibilities will be to:
- Own and define the data platform vision, and architect a scalable, future-proof data ecosystem that powers Alloy’s growth.
- Unify and scale Alloy’s data infrastructure – design and implement a simple, cohesive, and reliable platform that seamlessly integrates data across engineering, product, marketing, and all other business functions.
- Leverage emerging technologies in data engineering and continuously improve Alloy’s data platform capabilities.
- Make data effortlessly accessible – build a low-friction, self-service data experience that powers clients of Alloy as well as our internal teams to make real-time decisions.
- Shape data governance practices ensuring access to data is secure, compliant, and high-quality.
- Establish the data platform team – define the technical direction, mentor engineers, and help build a high-performing team from the ground up.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable data pipelines that can ingest, process, and serve data across multiple teams for real-time, streaming, and batch workloads.
- Create a centralized data platform that enables faster experimentation, analytics, automation, and enablement across the product and company as a whole.
- Optimize the infrastructure for costs, performance, and scalability making smart tradeoffs with our evolving data volumes.
- Partner with engineering, product, and business leaders to identify data needs and implement solutions that align with strategic objectives.
- Develop monitoring and observability frameworks, and define success metrics to ensure Alloy’s data platform remains robust and operationally sound.
- Play the role of a technical mentor and thought leader across engineering, helping grow and scale the data platform team over time.
- Advocate and implement best-in-class data engineering tools, fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for someone with a builder’s mindset adept in building data platforms that could power Alloy’s next phase of growth. You don’t just work with data; you think strategically about how data should be collected, moved, and structured to make it actionable across the entire organization and our clients.
- You are a visionary data engineer with experience architecting, building, or contributing to a “data platform” or large-scale data infrastructure project.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on data platform, data engineering, or data infrastructure roles.
- You are experienced in scaling systems for massive data volumes.
- You have deep expertise in ETL/ELT flows and distributed data processing.
- Experience defining data governance, security, and compliance practices, for responsible data usage.
- You are a self-starter with a knack for turning open questions into reliable engineering solutions.
- You have a product and business mindset - you don’t just build systems; you aim to create impact.
- You are able to make architectural decisions that balance performance, scalability, and flexibility across different data needs.
- You have a strong track record of cross-functional collaboration, teaming up with engineering, product, and operations teams to drive data initiatives.
- You lead engineers by example - moving fast, being proactive, and keeping humble.
- You thrive in startup environments and are comfortable with setting strategic direction as well as diving hands-on into the code.
Nice to have:
- Experience designing self-service data platforms for internal teams and external clients.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and data streaming technologies.
- Opinionated about build vs buy when it comes to data infrastructures and tools.
- Experience working with our current data infra - you’ve likely encountered some or most of these, but our focus is on overall data architecture experience rather than deep expertise in any single tool or technology:
- Familiarity with tools for rapid iteration like Retool or internal data applications.

This position has a salary range of $180,000 to $216,000. The base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and region. In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is also eligible for equity awards in the form of stock options (ISOs).
