The position
The Firmware Development Engineer position is open at HBK FiberSensing in Maia, Portugal, a HBK company specialized in the development and production of advanced monitoring systems based on optical Fiber Bragg Grating technology. HBK FiberSensing provides integrated solutions and world-leading expertise on Fiber Optic Sensing, with special focus on structural health monitoring.
We are looking for a technology-driven Firmware Development Engineer professional to work on the design, development and implementation of firmware for fiber Bragg grating based optoelectronic DAQs. You will join our R&D department and will work in close cooperation with the analog, digital, firmware, software, mechanical and test design engineers locally as well remotely. You will support the full life cycle of the design phase, from concept through implementation and release including maintenance on active products.

Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or comparable through proven experience.

Excellent knowledge of system programming language such as C and C++.

Experience with Linux and embedded operating systems.

Good insights into real-time operating systems (RTOS)

Experience with Altera, Modelsim or Tcl scripting.
- Familiar with version control systems (GIT, Azure DevOps,…)

Excellent knowledge of coding techniques, low-level interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, RS-232, RS-485), protocols and hardware peripherals.
- Deep understanding of digital electronics and architecture.
- Experience with digital signal processing like e.g. digital filtering, linearization, and scaling.
- Experience in soft-core processors (NIOS) is a plus
- Fluent in English both written and spoken
