The finance intern will work under the supervision of the Executive Director, Financial reporting, gaining hands-on experience with financial statements, reporting, filings, accounting entries, and more. The program is 10 weeks long starting on June 2 and ending August 8. The position is hybrid, working three days in the office (typically Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday), and two remote. The ideal intern should possess strong initiative, be detail oriented and demonstrate excellent communication skills.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Assist with the preparation of the second quarter statutory financial statements, accurately and efficiently meeting all deadlines.

Responsible for requesting, organizing, compiling, and tracking information from numerous sources throughout the company required for quarterly reporting for 3-4 legal entities.

For all NAIC filings, this individual will be accountable for less complex schedules, exhibits and Foot Notes but will be assigned more complex ones as knowledge of company operations and industry is acquired. Complete, consolidate data, review for reasonableness and comparability, and reconcile information received to key exhibits, schedules, supplemental schedules, and financial Notes, review for reasonableness between reporting periods, and work with sources to resolve inconsistencies.

Enter data into WINGS filing software, via upload or manual entry. Review and resolve any crosscheck errors within the filings for assigned schedules and exhibits and resolve them. Identify, initiate, test and implement process improvements to make them more efficient. Prepare and critically review accounting entries for insurance entities. Assist with rolling forward of annual audit reports and review for accuracy.
REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting expected by spring/summer 2027.

GPA or 3.0 or higher required.

Must be able to work 37.5 hours per week.

The compensation range for this role is the following based on the location of Lake Forest, Illinois:
$18.89 - $27.29 per hour
