SMX is seeking an Internal Controls Analyst to play a vital role in supporting the US Navy by providing administrative oversight of the Quality Assurance (QA) Program assistance and advice to the Financial Manager (FM) and DoD staff. 

This position requires a DoD TS security clearance which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Evaluate operational procedures and data quality for effective management decision-making. Develop and maintain quality standards and internal controls. Ensure compliance with established standards
  • Provide technical internal control advice on all financial operations (pay, travel, accounting, budget, systems). Maintain a schedule of audits and reviews
  • Conduct reviews to assess organizational performance and manage self-inspection programs. Ensure financial systems and controls safeguard funds and comply with laws
  • Review financial documents (pay vouchers, travel payments) for validity and perform post-audit reviews. Collaborate with financial staff to identify potential weaknesses
  • Identify and address material weaknesses, considering monetary value and sensitivity. Develop corrective action plans
  • Monitor system access levels and prepare internal control reports. Evaluate the effectiveness of procedures and data integrity
  • Ensure quality assurance standards and internal controls within the comptroller office and report discrepancies
  • Serve as fraud prevention focal point. Review system access data for unauthorized access and report discrepancies. Coordinate system changes and conduct tests
  • Analyze findings and recommendations, report discrepancies, track trends, and ensure timely resolution of all open issues
  • Facilitates monthly QA meetings and prepares minutes. Based on study results, determines need for refresher and supplementary training. Develops, schedules, and conducts training
  • Prepare monthly Discrepancy Tracking Report to management for review. Cross-feeds various reports and bulletins 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Required Clearance: TS eligible
  • 4 - 7  years experience as an Internal Control Analyst or Auditor
  • Experience with risk assessment and mitigation
  • Experience  with compliance assurance and fraud detection
  • Ability to prepare reports and presentation formats
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting, business or finance
  • Ability to create financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Strong Microsoft Suite skills (365)
  • Experience with analyzing costs to identify opportunities for savings and efficiencies

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Certification: Industrial Business Certifications in Accounting and Finance Management shall be considered

The proposed salary for this position is:

$105,000$175,300 USD
