Job Description: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Controller to join a General Insurance operation launching in México. This global underwriting leader provides best-in-class property, casualty, specialty reinsurance, and insurance solutions.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced bilingual Financial Controller with a strong background in general insurance who will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards (especially USGAAP), and complying with regulatory requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
- Production of quarterly and annual financial close processes, ensuring compliance with IFRS, US GAAP, and local statutory regulations.
- Prepare financial statements using Mexican and international accounting standards, especially IFRS.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Lead and support the automation, standardization, and redesign of finance processes to improve efficiency and accelerate financial close cycles.
- Set up the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
- Ensuring compliance with local government regulations and the Mexican Regulator of Insurance and Surety Institutions (CNSyF).
- Monthly/quarterly Balance Sheet account reconciliation.
- Lead the external audit process.
- Preparation and lodgment of indirect taxes and duties (GST, Stamp Duty, etc).
- Prepare the tax returns annually and work with the international tax team and external auditors.
- Co-ordinate the annual submissions to the relevant regulatory bodies.
- Work with external tax advisers to prepare annual and fringe benefits tax returns and transfer pricing documentation.
- Work closely with managers across all departments of the organization.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in financial reporting.
Additional duties include:
- Work with the CFO and other International Finance/Actuarial teams in the testing and rollout of various systems (new General Ledger, Reinsurance, Data Lake, and IFRS/ Reporting Tool).
- Set up the reporting process using the new systems being rolled out.
- Set up and document processes and procedures for the new systems.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Language skills: English level advanced.
- Proven experience within the General Insurance industry
- Experience with the various indirect taxes associated with general insurance policies and filings with the relevant Government department.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent understanding of financial accounting principles and practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel and experience in implementing systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
