This role can be done from home

Building the world’s leading sound experience starts with the experience we provide for our people. That’s why we’ve been distributed from the start: initially between offices in Boston & Santa Barbara, and now with additional offices around the globe. This role can be done from any of our offices across the United States or remotely from home. It’s about impact, not location.

As our Creative Director, you will be at the helm of brand storytelling, visual expression, and user-centric design across all touchpoints. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams spanning Product, Marketing, DTC, and Retail to shape the overarching creative vision that not only sets us apart from competitors, but forges deep connections with our customers - transcending the transactional and becoming a meaningful part of their lives.

Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Brand Leadership

  • Define the brand’s visual identity, tone, and overall creative direction

  • Inspire and galvanize internal and external partners around our brand mission

  • Partner with executive leadership to align Brand strategy with business direction

  • Creator and custodian of brand guidelines, Brand platform and core creative deliverables

Campaign Conceptualization & Execution

  • Oversee end-to-end concept development for product launches, marketing campaigns, and channel experiences

  • Partner closely with Product Marketing to translate technical features into compelling consumer-facing narratives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Product Design, Industrial Design, and Engineering teams to integrate brand storytelling into the entire product journey, from conception to launch.

  • Align with Retail, E-Commerce, CRM, Paid and Owned teams to ensure seamless brand execution across both digital and physical touchpoints.

Creative Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of art directors, designers, copywriters, and visual producers, fostering an environment of creativity, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Recruit top creative talent, build strong project teams, and cultivate a culture of collaboration and excellence.

  • Establish governance and process around design system creation, operationalizing how we deliver an enduring brand platform and core creative toolkits that scale across channels and markets 

Innovation & Trend Analysis

  • Stay ahead of market, category, consumer and design trends, actively driving innovation in materials, form factors, visual approaches, and brand activation strategies.

  • Partner with Consumer Research to inform creative decisions and user-focused design improvements.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Manage creative budgets, timelines, and resources to deliver high-quality projects on schedule and within scope.

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and ROI of creative initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

  • 15 +  years of creative leadership experience, ideally with a blend of agency and in-house roles in consumer electronics, technology, or lifestyle brands.

  • Proven track record of shaping brand strategy and executing large-scale, 360° creative campaigns.

  • Strong background in art direction, visual design, typography, and multimedia production, with a keen eye for detail and consistency.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with product, marketing, and executive teams to build cohesive brand narratives.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills; ability to articulate complex ideas to a variety of stakeholders and inspire creative thinking.

  • Proven success in leading and developing high-performing creative teams; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • A passion for emerging technologies, user-centric design principles, and global cultural trends.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience launching consumer electronics or similar hardware/software products.
  • Advanced degree in Design, Visual Arts, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Recognized thought leadership in creative strategy, brand storytelling, or design innovation.

  • Portfolio of award-winning campaigns or product collaborations that demonstrate brand-building expertise and creative excellence.

At Sonos we consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may lead  individual compensation to vary depending on job related qualifications, skills, and experience.  All full time employees are eligible for merit increases, discretionary bonuses, and equity.  Our job postings may span more than one career level and the base pay range may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions. The starting base pay for this role for all US candidates is between:

$209,000 and $261,600

Please note that compensation details listed in US job postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
