The Opportunity:
EVPassport is seeking an EV Charging Testing Engineer to ensure the ongoing success of our hardware and software deployments, both onsite and within our codebase. In this role, you will utilize a strong knowledge of EV Software and Hardware, will practice collaborative cross functional relationship building, and approach your work in a process oriented way to drive a scalable approach to testing.

You will work closely with our product, engineering and deployment teams, as well as build strong partnerships throughout the organization, aligning strategies and driving initiatives that support EV Passports growth and business success. This role is expected to work on site in our Santa Monica office, and eventually work primarily in our LA based warehouse.
Key Responsibilities
Testing & Quality Control:
- Develop and execute test plans and quality control procedures for charger hardware, networking, and payment systems.
- Conduct in-person testing of EV chargers at various deployment locations in Santa Monica, LA to ensure reliability and uptime.
- Validate new software and firmware updates, ensuring smooth functionality before large-scale rollouts.
- Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on hardware and software issues, identifying root causes of failures.
- Work closely with software developers and field teams to ensure seamless integration of new features.
- Provide real-time feedback on charger performance, usability, and durability.
Compliance & Reliability:
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (OCPP, ISO 15118, UL, SAE J1772/NACS, etc.).
- Document and report test findings, failure trends, and recommendations to improve product quality.
- Oversee charger stress testing, environmental durability testing, and failure rate analysis to identify weak points.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine the charger deployment process and improve long-term reliability.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in hardware or software testing, preferably in EV charging, power electronics, or embedded systems.
- Strong understanding of EV chargers, electrical systems, networking protocols, and firmware validation processes.
- Experience testing OCPP-compliant chargers and validating software updates.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with diagnostic tools, logs, and debugging methods.
- Familiarity with electrical safety, power systems, and charger reliability testing.
- Ability to document detailed test results and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve issues.
- Willingness to work on-site in Santa Monica, LA, conducting real-world tests.
- Experience using load simulators, multimeters, and other electrical testing tools.
Our Interview Plan:
As part of our interview plan, we will be asking candidates to complete a case study to ensure their testing experience and skills will set them up for success in the role.
Compensation: For this role we are targeting $85,000 - $120,000 Placement within this base salary range depends upon several factors, including prior relevant job experience and skill set.
