Job Description:
Summary:
Barr is seeking an experienced environmental data management specialist to join its data management practice group. The person in this position will work primarily in the environmental database EQuIS, with a heavy emphasis in Microsoft Excel. Primary responsibilities will include providing technical expertise and guidance on complex data projects, working with data experts to advance Barr’s analytical capabilities, and teaming with other staff members on internal initiatives and processes in support of company objectives. In addition, assigned work tasks may include entering data into the EQuIS database, manually checking data thoroughly against original documents, entering geologic data and producing boring logs, developing charts and reports, performing advanced formulas and functions in Microsoft Excel, following processes set by the data management department, and discussing data and projects with other data management staff members and project managers.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in environmental studies/sciences, geology, chemistry, biology or related field

10 or more years of professional experience working with relational databases and managing large datasets

5 or more years of experience working within the EQuIS database

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including experience with charts and functions

Exceptional deductive reasoning skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness

Strong mathematical and scientific skills

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment

A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship, now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge and experience with the following applications: SQL, gINT, R, and/or ArcGIS

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including experience with macros and pivot tables

Knowledge of chemistry and/or geology

Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Bismark, North Dakota; Duluth, Minnesota; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Jefferson City, Missouri; Salt Lake City, Utah or Hibbing, Minnesota, offices
