Role Overview
As an Engineering Manager, you will work closely with the Director of Engineering to play a people manager role, coordinate with teams, and ensure the successful delivery of company initiatives. You will be responsible for managing a team of engineers, focusing on team morale, talent retention, and productivity. You will lead one-on-one meetings with Engineers to understand individual career goals, provide feedback, and support each team member’s professional development. You’ll also oversee project planning, status updates, and compliance preparations to ensure all engineering projects meet standards for regulations and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize talent management best practices to support engineers in their growth, recognize achievements, and help retain top talent within the team.
- Use Continuous Performance Management Software for feedback, performance tracking, and goal setting. Ensure that the platform is actively used.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members to discuss personal development, career aspirations, project concerns, and feedback.
- Regularly review system logs via MySQL to ensure infrastructure reliability, identify issues proactively, and maintain high-performance standards across projects.
- Maintain project momentum by scheduling status check-ins, troubleshooting obstacles, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to achieve timely deliverables.
- Oversee preparation and implementation of regulatory and compliance requirements within engineering processes.
- Manage hiring processes and contractor tasks, including onboarding and resource allocation with the Director of Engineering.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in engineering, with at least 1 year in a management role.
- Proven track record in talent management, with a strong focus on retention, engagement, and performance development.
- A strong preference for analytical decision-making with openness to experimentation and innovation. Ability to critically assess and engage in technical debates.
- Experience collaborating with Product teams, understanding user experience (UX) and design considerations, and how to organically integrate these as the company evolves.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, global team.
- Empathy and active listening skills to understand and address team members' needs and concerns.
- Experience in Fintech startup and familiarity with technologies such as React, PHP, and Python.
- Talent for aligning individual ambitions with broader company and team objectives.
- Flexibility to accommodate different time zones and availability needs.
- Understanding of GDPR, CCPA, and SOC compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with 15Five or similar feedback and talent management platforms.
