GENERAL PURPOSE

This position is responsible for supporting efforts of coordinating the design, optimization, verification and validation of new products. Position is responsible for supervising the activities of project teams and direct reports determining and communicating project priorities. Position is also responsible departmentally and cross-functionally for continuously providing guidance, problem-resolution support and motivation to produce innovative, cost-effective, reliable and market competitive products within the established deadlines. 

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILTIES

• Manage resources and coordinate the projects that develop new products, enhance existing products and bring derivative products to market

• Work with internal and external supply base to resolve design related production issues

• Work with Customer Service to resolve design related field issues

• Interface with Product Management and Marketing teams on planned projects and timelines

• Champion, contribute to the development of, implement and ensure adherence to documented processes and procedures

• Assist Quality team in all facets of product testing and certification requirements Assist Marketing team members by providing leadership, guidance and education to both internal and external customers on product features, advantages and benefits stemming from the designs

• Utilize experience and communication skills to interface with management and sales management

• Effectively interface with engineers, designers, technicians, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers to meet project commitments Participate in developing project plans, test plans, and writing test reports; assist with creating, maintaining, and revising product project plans and effectively communicate project deadlines

• Create and oversee product documentation: technical drawings, design files, BOM’s and ECO’s Proactively continue to acquire and expand personal knowledge of the industry, competitors and customers, through occasional trade show attendance and direct and indirect customer interaction, to competitively enhance and grow the Company’s product capabilities

• Represent Company at trade shows, trade association and client meetings to promote products and services

• Effectively manage, develop, and motivate direct and indirect reports

• Responsible for performance management including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluations, and recognition

• Initiate and assist with the creation, development, and implementation of processes and procedures Understand workplace hazards and take steps to proactively prevent and report hazards or injuries in the workplace. Cooperate in safety programs, initiatives, and investigations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Skilled in managing multiple full life cycle development projects, and end to end (including multi-year) product development processes

• Excellent project management, planning, and organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage several projects at one time while providing high attention to details and excellent follow-through skills

• Must be able to function in a deadline driven environment

• Ability to interpret standards, specifications, procedures, drawings, etc.; electrical / mechanical aptitude

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Proven ability to manage people; train and motivate employees, as well as delegate effectively
• Proven ability to make sound decisions to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation or government law

• Must possess high degree of professionalism and ability to handle confidential information

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor of Science degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or other related technical degree with a minimum of four (4) years of working experience as an engineer

• Prior experience managing engineers or other technical professionals • Knowledge of design & manufacturability of electrical, electronic or electro-mechanical products

• Project Management experience and demonstrated proficiency

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with multi-national product development teams in the US, Europe and Asia

• Experience working with multiple disciplines, including electrical and mechanical design, layout, manufacturing, external suppliers and service providers

• UL, TUV and/or CE experience

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, reach, push, pull, and make coordinated movements of the fingers for using a keyboard •

• Long-distance or air travel as needed – less than 15%
