Who You Are

Not only do you have the broad extensive knowledge of core web development technologies in distributed environments, but you also have a high level of empathy and interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally in an organization. As an Engineering Manager at Justworks, you will oversee a team of Software Engineers and work closely with Designers and Product Managers. You are responsible for coordinating projects, prioritization, and engineers to create and maintain features for our customers. This role requires a strong technical background and a passion for mentoring and growing teams.

About the Team

The Platform Services team is responsible for development of shared product services with API-driven approaches. This includes capabilities such as identity and access management (e.g. SSO and permissions), core product data services, mobile platform support, and customer communications. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to work with other engineering managers across the organization to promote the adoption of these horizontal product-oriented capabilities. Beyond product delivery work, engineering managers collaborate on agile processes, interviewing, training, and improving our systems, craft, and capabilities across all of engineering. 

Your Success ProfileWhat You Will Work On

  • Work with the Engineers, Designers, and Product Managers to prioritize, schedule and execute projects so we can quickly develop and ship new features
  • Work with the team to build a scalable process to deliver iteratively and incrementally with consistent velocity
  • Communicate and coordinate with other teams in and out of engineering to understand the requirements and opportunities for improvement
  • Setting a high bar for technical ability and ownership, revisiting codebases as needed to evolve and improve them
  • Provide guidance, both technical and non-technical, to direct reports
  • Help recruit, source, interview and hire for the entire engineering team
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Engineering Manager with track record of high quality technical delivery
  • Experience with Golang and service-oriented architectures strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of mobile and web development technologies and API-driven approaches
  • Demonstrable experience in prioritizing, crafting, and achieving roadmap plans 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to grasp and explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical people
  • Strong leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team
  • Solid experience in Agile/Lean practices and working closely with product management
  • High levels of empathy and interpersonal skills

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $205,000.00 to $220,000.00 per year.

Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location.  Salary ranges for positions based in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
