Our compute platform serves as the essential foundation for all features delivered by the Cloud Infrastructure team, including security, networking, developer experience, and efficiency. It guarantees the consistency needed for seamless delivery across multiple cloud vendors. As an engineering manager, your colleagues will depend on you to provide a cloud native platform that simplifies the process of delivering high-quality features to product teams across Airbnb.
The Difference You Will Make:
As an Engineering Manager on the Cloud Infrastructure Compute team, you’ll be in a position to empower our developers and support our partners. You will enable our Cloud Infrastructure engineers to work efficiently and effectively by prioritizing our work, building roadmaps, and providing the support your team needs.
Your team will provide a cloud native Kubernetes platform with the reliability, scalability, security, and developer experience necessary for product teams to deliver first class experiences to Airbnb Guests and Hosts around the world.
A Typical Day:
- Collaborate within a results-driven infrastructure team, ensuring the delivery of infrastructure solutions that prioritize reliability, efficiency, and quality at scale.
- Engage deeply in systems design and architecture discussions, evaluating trade-offs and confidently making and defending the technical decisions and direction for your team.
- Utilize technical expertise to partner effectively with technical leads, assisting in incident resolution and fostering continuous improvement of the team’s service level objectives (SLOs).
- Work alongside diverse cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize initiatives that align with Airbnb’s product objectives.
- Focus on reducing operational costs, enhancing quality, and achieving efficiency gains through significant optimizations and infrastructure upgrades.
- Lead, mentor, and expand a high-performing engineering team, serving as the custodian of the team’s architectural integrity.
Your Expertise:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering management, combined with over 9 years in software development within a dynamic tech environment. Candidates should hold a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Proven expertise in managing teams specializing in backend distributed systems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership with hands-on experience guiding senior technical teams and establishing technical direction and strategy.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities, with a track record of working effectively across teams and organizations on technical projects.
- Skilled in retaining, mentoring, developing, and recruiting senior engineering talent.
- Proficient in collaborating with senior leadership to define and steer strategic initiatives over a 6+ month time frame.
- Active contributor to cultural initiatives that enhance the overall engineering environment.
How We'll Take Care of You:
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
