Engineering Intern
The Summer Engineering Intern will be responsible for testing and developing Engineering projects and strategic programs from lab phase all the way into market test. Will work closely with the Sr. Manager Engineer. Must work cross-functionally and create ready to implement solutions when the business is ready for them. This position will be onsite in St. Louis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Design and implement methods for process control, process improvement, testing, and development.
- Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, test methodology, quality plans, documents and processes.
- Develop, execute and analyze quality-reporting measures.
- Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine processes, staff and equipment requirements and production standards.
- Draft and design layout of equipment, materials and workspaces to illustrate maximum efficiency, throughput, and labor allocation.
- Recommend, plan and initiate projects involving cost reduction, work simplification methods and standardization, material handling and equipment justification analyses.
- Review prototypes of new systems and perform feasibility studies.
- Communicate with management and users to develop production and design standards.
- Estimate production cost and effect of design changes and recommends action and control.
- Evaluate precision and accuracy of production.
- Analyze statistical data and system or process specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished systems and processes.
- Develop production methods, labor utilization standards and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
- Recommend methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, equipment and utilities.
- Travel may be required to complete job duties
- Work cross-functional with over departments to execute key initiatives.
- Complete adhoc projects as needed.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Students having completed their 3rd year or more towards Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, engineering management or equivalent are encouraged to apply.
- Robotics/control programming experience preferred.
- Must be able to travel as needed
- Experienced with AutoCAD (preferred)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Broad knowledge of theory and principles of statistics and statistical process control.
- Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Must be able to effectively convey information to associates at all levels.
- Strong computer skills with AutoCAD, Microsoft Suite, word processing, spreadsheets and databases, including Access.
- Well-developed critical thinking skills, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Strong time management skills including managing one's own time.
- Active listening skills, including giving full attention to what other people are saying.
- Complex problem solving, able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Ability to travel as needed less than 10% of work hours.
