Engineering Intern, CloudSecure (Summer 2025)

Location: Onsite, Sunnyvale, California (3 - 5 days a week in the office)

This is a 12 week internship program beginning on May 27th 2025 or June 23rd 2025. This internship is based in Sunnyvale, California, and will require a hybrid work schedule. Please note that we are unable to provide relocation assistance at this time.

At Illumio, we are excited to offer two distinct Cloud Secure internship opportunities that provide exposure to cutting-edge technologies and allow interns to work on impactful, real-world projects in cloud security and data management. These opportunities focus on building innovative solutions that directly contribute to Illumio’s mission of enhancing cybersecurity in dynamic, multi-cloud environments.

Responsibilities:

Project 1: Building a Rich Search Interface for Large-Scale Data Sets 

• Contribute to the development of an intuitive search interface designed to generate search queries for complex user intentions, helping customers navigate and access large data sets across multiple context domains.

• Create capabilities that transform user-friendly search inputs into optimized queries for analyzing data stored in a CloudSecure system that ingests 1 PB of data daily and retains up to 90 PB over 90 days.

• Work on real-world challenges related to large-scale data management and cloud security. The intern will gain hands-on experience in developing innovative solutions for complex systems and will have the opportunity to impact how organizations access and search through large, dependent data sets in cloud environments.

• Work at the intersection of cloud data management and security, applying cutting-edge technologies to revolutionize customer search experiences in the cloud.

Project 2: Enabling Intelligent, Topology-Aware Policy Enforcement in Multi-Cloud Environments

• Develop strategies for intelligent, topology-aware policy enforcement across multi-cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

• Analyze cloud infrastructure topologies, create frameworks to identify enforcement points, and propose enhancements for dynamic policy adjustments.

• Optimize microsegmentation policy enforcement in complex cloud ecosystems and improve the scalability and efficiency of Illumio’s CloudSecure product. 

•  Work to strengthen Illumio’s market position in the cybersecurity space. You will be part of a team that is pushing the envelope on policy enforcement strategies and directly contributing to the next generation of cloud security tools.

• Innovate in a fast-evolving field and help create solutions that address key customer needs in multi-cloud environments.

Experience:

• Currently enrolled in a full-time Master's or PhD Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field degree-seeking program with an expected graduation date in Winter 2025/Spring 2026. 

• Experience with Cloud Platforms: Exposure to cloud services and platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure. Knowledge of cloud architecture, data storage, and compute resources. 

• Exposure to data analytics methodologies and understanding of how to process, analyze, and visualize data to aid decision-making. 

• Ability to think creatively, pivot quickly, and tackle ambiguous problems. 

Plus Factors:

• Experience with Data Visualization, familiar with d3.js, SVG, Canvas, etc. 

• Familiarity with the ever-evolving JavaScript ecosystem: ECMAScript, TypeScript, Babel, Webpack, etc.

• Interest in learning about the design and testing of REST APIs.

• Experience with Git, subversion, or similar content versioning system.

• Familiarity of cloud technologies (AWS/Azure/GCP).

• Interest in cyber security.

Compensation:

$ 47 USD
