OpenX seeks a Director, Engineering with experience in the ad tech programmatic ecosystem to lead multiple engineering teams focused on building and scaling AI-powered products. This is a strategic leadership role within the Outcomes and Optimizations organization, responsible for driving the technical direction and delivery of AI-centric solutions that power OpenX’s media platform. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners across Engineering, Data Science, Product, and Business to turn cutting-edge AI research into production-ready systems.
The role, while remote, is schedule-centered in the US Eastern time zone.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the O&O technical strategy and vision in close partnership with Product leadership
- Lead multiple high-performing engineering teams, setting clear goals and ensuring the timely delivery of robust, scalable software solutions.
- Collaborate with Data Science leadership to translate research and models into production-grade systems
- Ensure technical excellence through best practices in software design, code quality, observability, and automation
- Foster a strong engineering culture of innovation, accountability, mentorship, and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to drive consistency across the platform and software development lifecycle (SDLC), establishing standards and practices that support scalability and long-term growth
- Partner with business stakeholders to align engineering priorities with company goals and deliver measurable impact
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (Ph.D. a plus)
- 10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years leading multiple engineering teams
- Prior experience in the ad tech ecosystem or similar high-performance domains
- Proven track record of delivering complex AI/ML-driven products at scale, ideally in high-throughput, low-latency environments
- Deep understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including system architecture, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure
- Experience managing large codebases, setting technical direction, and instituting best practices
- Excellent communication and leadership skills — able to effectively engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on knowledge of cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure
- Experience with modern languages and frameworks such as Python, and Go
- Experience partnering with Data Science and Product teams to deliver AI/ML capabilities
