Huhtamaki-Project Engineer

Purpose
Design, document, build, and support equipment/components for Huhtamaki manufacturing facilities and customer installations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Project Engineer will manage all aspects of design for packaging equipment and in-house converting machinery. This includes conceptualization, design, and documentation for all manufactured components. This documentation will include the creation of detail and assembly drawings as well as itemized bill of materials. The Project Engineer will be involved with machine assembly, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.
- The Project Engineer must be capable of designing new machinery from the ground up, rebuilding or modifying existing machinery, recommending machinery for purchase, and troubleshooting unfamiliar machinery.
- The Project Engineer will be responsible for both machine design and project management. Project management includes maintaining project budgets, tracking timelines, preparing progress reports, and directing projects through all phases including assembly, debugging, training and installation.
- The Project Engineer should possess a fundamental understanding of pneumatic and electrical schematics, as well as basic PLC programming and troubleshooting skills.
- The Project Engineer will be involved with identifying potential material and process savings through observation and analytical methods, as well as supporting cost reduction activities through process improvement, equipment modification, and material changes.
- The Project Engineer will be involved with identifying any safety shortcomings of new and existing equipment and designing either mechanical or control solutions to resolve those shortcomings.
- The Project Engineer will interact with Customers, Sales, Service, Quality and Plant personnel to identify and solve issues with packaging equipment.
- Travel within the US will periodically be required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Will work in manufacturing and office environments. Will utilize computer systems and shop tools and be able to provide/receive verbal instructions. Must be able to lift to 40 lbs. occasionally. At times, requires prolonged standing, walking, stooping/bending, twisting at waist and reaching at and above the shoulders.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical preferred). Requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering environment with an emphasis towards machine design. Proficiency with CAD and solid modeling software required, experience with Creo a plus. Experience with PLC software and components helpful. Must have effective communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
