This position provides site electrical engineering services for projects and is also responsible for the Mobile site’s electrical distribution systems. This role is responsible for defining, organizing, planning, directing, and executing small capital projects and identifying needs for the electrical distribution system. The engineer will manage all aspects of these projects, ensuring compliance with site and national standards. Additionally, the position will supervise electrical work and provide technical expertise for operating, maintaining, and upgrading low (480V) and medium (12.47kV) voltage power distribution systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform plant and reliability engineering duties to maintain and improve site electrical distribution systems.
- Plan and coordinate electrical outages, including maintenance of switchgear and breakers.
- Execute equipment maintenance, documentation, inspections, analyses, and plant projects applying engineering principles.
- Coordinate activities between plant operations, maintenance planning, execution, and project teams.
- Conduct failure cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Provide electrical engineering support to remote sites, including safety, reliability, and energy efficiency improvements.
- Supervise electrical distribution maintenance contractors and develop strategic plans for future modifications and expansions.
- Maintain electrical distribution system documentation in an accessible electronic format.
- Serve as the site expert for electrical safety, including Arc Flash classifications, labeling, and safety documentation updates.
- Assist with maintenance and upgrades of the site’s SCADA system (Energy Data Information System - EDIS).
- Program and troubleshoot electronic and mechanical relays and power meters.
- Provide training for instrument/electrical technicians on new electrical technologies and safety practices.
- Upgrade and maintain substation annunciator systems for improved equipment monitoring.
- Develop, implement, and manage electrical distribution system projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8+ years of electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License is preferred.
- Experience managing power distribution systems, including preventive maintenance and power quality assessments.
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards, including Arc Flash protection and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Ability to manage and oversee project budgets, contractors, and engineering teams.
- Experience with SCADA systems, power meters, and electronic/mechanical relay programming.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience in supervising engineers, contractors, and maintenance teams is preferred
