POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer (SQE) for Software (SW) is a key role at MAGNA Electronics which is responsible for working with its external supplier's release approval and delivery of quality software.
The SQE-SW is responsible for the accountability of assigned suppliers, from the approval process to the end of life (Cradle to Grave). Following the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Advanced Product Quality Planning (S-APQP), and all Magna Electronics methods and standards from the release process, thru serial production, service parts, until the products end of life.
Activities include the verification of the supplier's understanding and application of design requirements, statement of work, specifications, industry, automotive, ASPICE, customer and MAGNA Standards. SQE-SW assures component project timing to ensure a timely and flawless launch of new parts and continued delivery through the life of serial production. The SQE will work with internal teams such as Purchasing, Engineering, Operations, Quality and Project teams to plan quality events and resolve issues.
The SQE-SW is responsible for all software suppliers. Focusing on the overall software performance for Quality and continuous improvement. Ensuring that the suppliers' practices and procedures are consistent with Magna Electronics requirements. Maintains responsibility for coordinating, reporting, and evaluating Magna Electronics standards, ASPIC requirements, Go, See & Fix Activities for SW. Overseeing and/or performing required audits and assessments as required. Establish a yearly (with three-year forecast) Supplier audit plan. Participate, lead and follow-up on supplier audits and the development activities resulting from audits and "Go & See" activities.
Sets annual targets with each supplier within the software commodity.Drives and monitors Quality improvements with suppliers to meet if not exceed targets.Oversees and drives target improvement audits and activities through the assessment of standards, Supplier Scoring, and with Plant Supplier Quality, Project Teams, and Purchasing.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES (SQE-SW):
- Define and maintain the MAGNA Electronics supplier quality processes for software suppliers.
- Owner of Supplier Quality Project supporting APQP & PPAP.
- Define APQP tasks based on the Component Risk classification and PPAP level required.
- Follow up completion of APQP tasks in terms of timing and quality for defined deliverables.
- Lead supplier audits (CMMI, ASPICE, VDA),
- Owner of the PPAP approval.
- Escalate APQP/PPAP delays / deviations.
- Assist Engineering in the transfer of Customer Specific requirements to the suppliers (Spec, TFC Review).
- Provide Supplier KPI rating for timing and service level parameters in APQP/PPAP performance.
- Analyze supplier scoring data and provide detailed and consolidated rating-input-data on plant and supplier level for SW.
- Understand the differences in rating results from various manufacturing divisions within Magna Electronics.
- Take the lead to systemically improve the affecting areas; Supplier Non-Conformance Events (S-NCE), Software Supplier Quality Project (SQP = S-APQP/PPAP), and Responsiveness ratings with responsible suppliers.
- Coordinate, facilitate, or lead Supplier Audits including but not limited to ASPICE audits, Software FMEA or Fault Tree Analysis, Go, See & Fix, and supplier visit activities with Plant SQ's.
- Educate SW suppliers on change management requirements. Responsible to manage and/or support Supplier Quality's role for SW changes throughout the change management process.
- When escalated or necessary, support Division/Plant SQ with S-NCE's. Help solve Root Cause and Corrective actions of S-NCE's. Support open issues leading to S-NCEs (e.g. missing / unclear requirements, etc.).
- Coordinate cross-plant activities in case of quality problems, using Q-Matrix.
- Set targets for suppliers for S-NCE Reduction, Score Card results, SQP, supplier development programs to be conducted etc.) through the analysis (systematic) root causes and evaluate necessary improvements at supplier / at Magna Electronics
- Lead or participate in improvement workshops at supplier and / or Magna Electronics facilities.
NEEDED SKILLS for Software (SQE-SW):
- Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Knowledge of software development processes and methodologies to effectively integrate validation activities into the development lifecycle.
- Programming languages such as Python, C/C++, Java, or scripting languages like Shell scripting for writing automated test scripts and tool customization.
- Ability to design test cases, test scenarios, and test plans based on requirements and specifications.
- Familiar with testing techniques such as unit testing, integration testing, system testing, regression testing, and acceptance testing to validate software functionality at different levels.
- Validation tools such as static code analysis tools, dynamic code analysis tools, unit testing frameworks, and test management systems.
Ability to analyze complex software systems, identify potential issues or risks, and devise effective validation strategies to migrate them.
- At a minimum have or become a Provisional Assessor ASPICE to conduct the following assessments:
- ASPICE Audits - v3.1 according to the Supplier Statement of Work, targeting Level 3; or
- ASPICE Audits - v4.0 according to the Supplier Statement of Work, targeting Level 3 that would include Basic Part and at a minimum Domain Specific - Software.
- Programming languages like Embedded C, C++
- Real Time Operating Systems like QNX, Linux
- Developing device drivers and integrating with hardware peripherals such as sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C,CAN)
- Ability to develop and customize BSPs (Board Support Package) for specific hardware platforms, including bootloader, kernel configuration, and device tree setup.
- Integrating low-level software components like bootloaders, firmware, and middleware into embedded systems
- Testing Embedded software using techniques such as unit testing, Integration testing, and hardware-in-loop (HIL) testing
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR, ISO26262(FuSa), and communication protocols like CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
- Ability to debug software issues using debugging tools like JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
QUALIFICATIONS (SQE-SW):
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 3+ years professional experience in design, process, and/or quality engineering in high-volume production industry including:
- Work experience in software development.
- Work experience in software quality assurance desired.
- Strong knowledge of software quality assurance methodologies, tools, and processes
- Experience in requirements management utilizing various tools.
- Experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases.
- Hands-on experience with both white box and black box testing
- Hands-on experience with automated testing tools
- Experience in industry assessment standards (CMMI, ASPICE, etc.)
- Provisional Assessor ASPICE 3.1 with gap training conducted for ASPICE 4.0
- Must have strong problem-solving skills and quality systems knowledge 3-5 years previous experience in supply chain, quality and/or high-volume manufacturing of stated commodity. ASQ Certified Quality Engineer is a plus.
- Theoretical knowledge and practical experience of quality tools common in the automotive industry (QFD, PPAP, S-APQP, 8D, Software FMEA or Fault Tree Analysis, MISRA, etc.)
- Must have strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software applications.
- Requires knowledge of TS 16949, Magna Electronics automotive, and customer standards and requirements.
- Must have the ability to effectively interact with all levels within Magna Electronics and with suppliers.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of action registers, reports and assist in the maintenance of documentation in the Magna Electronics system.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
SQE-SW is required to travel domestically and internationally to suppliers and other facilities between 30% and 75% of the working time. Due to global work, daily working times may vary.
