To ensure the planning, organization, direction, and control of Instrument, Electrical, and Automation systems in the CA business unit. To instruct the designers, draftsman, field coordinators, and construction workers on the requirements for the design and installation of electrical, instrument, and process control projects. To provide the technical expertise for maintaining or modifying the process control systems (hardware and software) used for process control and safety shutdown as required by our chemical processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Shared responsibility for meeting the Plant Engineering / Maintenance budget.
- Responsibility for meeting regulatory requirements including interlock testing, instrumentation testing, and collection of environmental data.
- Responsibility for increasing technical availability of CA Production units through improvements in process control systems hardware/software, maintenance including making backup copies of the all critical control system files, and failure recovery planning for major control system components.
- Support continuous improvement activities in CA (process variability reduction, alarm management, Advanced Process Control, PIMS and training).
- Support the management of change (MOC) effort through creating and updating technical documents (specifications, spare parts lists, entity files, plant standards, P&ID’s, etc.), and ensure successful completion of documentation for technical changes and plant projects.
- Monitor overall condition of the plant(s), analyze technical condition of equipment, identify safety risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Provide accurate material, labor, and engineering estimates for plant projects.
- Work with civil, mechanical and electrical engineers and designers during engineering of a plant project to ensure that all plant standards and needs are considered and provide technical support for Production, Plant Engineering, and Maintenance.
- Work to reduce process variability by improving tuning, reliability of process equipment, improving plant design, and operation.
- Design and implement control schemes to improve the operation of the processes in the CA business unit.
- Maintain and improve the existing systems hardware and software.
- Champion the use of the Emerson Asset Management System (AMS) to identify maintenance opportunities.
- Ensure all PSM Critical interlocks, alarms, and instruments are included in the maintenance program following “good engineering practice” to meet regulatory requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the I&E DCS maintenance or engineering area in a process industry, strongly preferred.
- High School diploma required, Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
- Experience implementing logic changes, troubleshooting, and testing safety systems (DeltaV SIS) preferred.
- Experience implementing logic changes, troubleshooting, and testing programmable logic controllers (Siemens or Allen Bradley) required.
- Experience working with plant historian, Aspen AP.21(system architecture, creating, modifying, and deleting tags) preferred.
- Experience specifying and troubleshooting field instrumentation required.
- Experience specifying and troubleshooting control valves required and experience specifying, troubleshooting, and setting-up variable frequency drives preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD modification of loop sheets and P&IDs desirable.
- Experience with Plant Maintenance (PM), Project Systems (PS) and Materials Management (MM) modules of SAP is desirable.
- Proficiency in MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, Access, and Project) is required.
