Position Overview:
We are seeking an Employment Specialist who will assist clients with IDD in developing essential occupational skills and exploring job opportunities within the community. The ideal candidate will be passionate about empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them thrive in meaningful employment roles, and supporting them in their daily lives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized therapeutic and occupational programs to enhance skill development for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Plan and facilitate group and individual activities to promote occupational development and build necessary work-related skills.
  • Communicate proactively with clients, their family members, and other stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of services, compliance with safety procedures, and the documentation of services provided.
  • Provide direct care services, including assisting clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, food preparation, mobility, community access, and recreational activities.
  • Offer transportation services to and from job opportunities and related activities for program participants.
  • Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of occupational programs, making adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong independent judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and the ability to effectively interact with clients, family members, and co-workers.
  • A genuine commitment to serving individuals with dignity, patience, compassion, and respect.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with a particular focus on Excel.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED required; college degree or some college preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the healthcare or home care field.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic techniques and modalities for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move, transport, or position up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate office spaces and client homes, including climbing stairs.
  • Clear and effective communication to exchange information with clients, family members, and co-workers.

Travel Requirements:

  • Regular travel required on a daily or weekly basis, including in inclement weather.
