Substack is building a new economic engine for culture, giving the brightest, most interesting, and most creative people on the internet the power of their own publishing platform. Substack empowers independent writers, artists, videographers, podcasters, and creators of all types to create, share, and make a living off their work through subscriptions, while offering them creative freedom, ownership, and a direct connection to their audiences.
As Substack’s Education Producer, you will help independent creators shape the future of culture and find success on the platform by providing resources and guidance as they launch, build, and grow their Substacks.
In this role, you will be responsible for educating and inspiring creators at scale on how to use the platform and its multimedia tools. You’ll do this through video, text, and audio storytelling in On Substack, our flagship publication produced for and with Substack culture-makers, and through community events and outreach. Working directly with publishers and Substack’s community tools, you’ll build the playbook for success on Substack. And you’ll share inspiring success stories from creators, providing a guiding light for others on the platform. If you’re a natural storyteller who excels at producing stories across video, audio, and text formats, are both analytical and creative, and are passionate about helping creators build a livelihood on Substack, then we'd love to hear from you.
This position will join the Communications team, reporting directly to the Editor, and work closely with the Creator, Product, and Talent Development teams.
Responsibilities:
- Produce multimedia, evergreen resources for Substack’s owned channels that serve as a source of truth for how to best use Substack’s tools and new features to succeed on the platform.
- Host regular live onboarding sessions, growth webinars, and virtual programs for hundreds of writers, creators, and publishers.
- Partner closely with the Creator, Partnerships, and Data teams to identify inspiring stories of writers and creators successfully using Substack and share those stories with a broad audience.
- Own the publication strategy for On Substack, maintaining an editorial calendar, producing stories, and utilizing community tools for the publication.
- Work directly with creators to tell their stories, including researching, writing, recording, editing, and publishing stories that showcase Substack as the home for the new creative class.
About You:
- Experience in Journalism, PR, Communications, Editorial, or Community roles, working directly with writers, podcasters, or creators
- An excellent writer with a track record of producing stories across multiple formats (audio and video experience preferred)
- Willing to collaborate with any writer or creator on the platform regardless of their views
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, startup environment
- Ambitious self-starter, open-minded, with a high sense of initiative
- An excellent communicator, able to foster understanding and teamwork
- Located in New York City or the Bay Area (preferred)

What We Do
Substack lets writers connect with their audience on their own terms and earn money doing it. We make it simple for writers to publish to an email list that they own, get discovered on the web, and charge for subscriptions.
More than 500,000 people pay to subscribe to writers across the Substack network, and the top writers make millions of dollars a year. Substack’s model depends on the success of writers using Substack – we only make money when they do.
“Substack makes it dead simple to start a newsletter and get paid for it.” – Judd Legum, author of Popular Information
"Substack gives me a way to connect with my audience on my own terms.” – Lyz Lenz, author of God Land and Men Yell At Me
