We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Education Lead for the upcoming FCDO UK Transforming Education in Ethiopia (TREE). This position will be based in Addis Ababa.

Project Description 

FCDO UK Support for ‘Transforming Education in Ethiopia (TREE)’ (2025-2029) is a new bilateral education programme in Ethiopia due to be tendered in November 2024. The programme will improve access for marginalized groups to education, improve retention and transition rates, improve learning outcomes, and improve school capacity and capability. The programme will operate across three pillars: 1) School leadership and teacher professional development, 2) Support for improving teachers’ English language capability, 3) Social inclusion in education for the most marginalized. This post will span all three pillars and will be integrated across all workstreams working in close collaboration with regional and federal level authorities to support improved delivery, policy strengthening, and partnerships.

Summary of Role

The Education Lead will play a crucial role in supporting improving the quality of education and increase access for marginalized groups, particularly girls. The education lead will work closely with key stakeholders to implement innovative approaches and ensure the successful delivery of the TREE programme’s objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and continuous improvement of pre-service and in-service training for teachers and school leaders.

  • Facilitate the translation of training into improved classroom practices through support to regional bureaus and school leaders.

  • Support the creation of high-quality training materials for English language teachers.

  • Develop and implement strategies to help children who have missed significant amounts of school to catch up and continue their education.

  • Work with government and local stakeholders to scale up proven approaches for supporting marginalized children to access and stay in school.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Socialize key concepts and provide capacity building, in partnership with other relevant advisors e.g GESI advisors on GESI.

  • Development of guidance documents.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree.

  • National/Ethiopian or international candidates are encouraged to apply. Fluency in English; knowledge of Amharic or other local languages is an advantage.

  • Strong background in teacher training, curriculum development, and educational leadership.

  • Local knowledge and networks in Ethiopia ensuring that strong working relationships are maintained with academic institutions, civil society, and other development partners.

  • Computer literacy with standard business software (including Word, Excel and Power Point).

  • Experience with FCDO-funded programs.
