The Editor/Writer will provide intensive copyediting, proofreading and content alignment of curriculum and education support materials. Candidate will work as part of a team in the production of top quality educational products. The selected candidate will be involved in all aspects of the editorial workflow to ensure the following: pedagogical effectiveness, consistency, accuracy, legal acceptability, accreditation adherence, and appropriate realization of the original intent of the work. Candidates will be required to submit a résumé and two writing samples to be considered for this position. All positions are full time, on-campus in Winter Park, FL.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft/edit/proofread academic and education support content to a set house style and tone
  • Identify and solve problems of overall clarity or accuracy in materials
  • Write or rewrite segments of text to improve readability and flow of information in curriculum products while maintaining intent of the work
  • Liaise with faculty members to improve understanding of subject matter and appropriate editorial decision-making
  • Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and word usage; proofread for errors and detail alignment in content: copy, art, and design
  • Coordinate with designers and software teams for appropriate inclusion of text for an intended user experience
  • Leverage a strong understanding internal terminology, educational philosophy, and marketing representation of Full Sail in project work
  • Adapt to evolving educational needs and adjust style and strategy to address various audiences
  • Write educational content for products based on deep analysis of multiple stakeholder and project needs
  • Work independently to create content that is suitable to meet timely initiatives
  • Organize project timing and maintain editorial, workflow, and approval procedures set for project types ranging in priority
  • Proactively query and consult with stakeholders on detecting issues of concern in project content
  • Maintain appropriate project files and folders
  • Contribute to ongoing development of departmental procedures and house style
  • Participate in inter- and intradepartmental meetings related to projects, schedules, workflow

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading and editing for grammar and punctuation, and production editorial skills
  • Ability to understand and improve technical and educational material
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask while working independently and collaboratively with other publication team staff
  • Ability to interact professionally and constructively with students and staff at all levels in an immersive, fast-paced environment

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree preferably in English or Writing and two years editing experience in a production environment preferred, Chicago Manual of Style.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • None required

Skills:

  • Proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, Excel, Keynote/PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Basic knowledge of production processes
  • Good organizational and time-management skills

Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:

Work is performed in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active customer and employee communication; access, input and retrieve information from the computer system; enter alphanumeric data into a computerized system often while listening on the telephone. May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.
