This role plans, manages, and supports manufacturing engineering activities in the area of production processes, equipment, machinery, fixtures, gauges, and tooling. Develops documentation for the acquisition and appropriation of capital goods.
Job Description:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Apply statistical methods to estimate manufacturing process capabilities.
- Consults with management, engineering, and other personnel on manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Researches and recommends new manufacturing methods, machinery, and equipment to increase productivity, reduce waste, and reduce costs.
- Develops models of alternative processing methods to test the feasibility of new applications, systems, and processes. Designs and recommends implementation of improved procedures.
- Coordinates the design and specification of gauges, fixtures, tooling, material handling and material transportation in support of ongoing manufacturing operations.
- Oversees the design of products and systems to connect machines, hardware, and software.
- Direct and coordinate manufacturing and installation activities to ensures products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Ensures facilities and equipment are always kept safe and productive at all times by supervising maintenance personnel.
- Works with machinery and equipment vendors regarding specifications, quotations, timing, delivery, and installation. Negotiate long-term relationship agreements and La-Z-Boy specific technology protection.
- Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if the benefits derived and potential applications justify the costs.
- Supports company-wide standardization of processes, equipment, and management systems.
- Maintain and update CAD documentation for plant layout designs, fixture, and equipment locations.
- Assists with the establishment of manufacturing capital budgets and equipment expenditures.
- Consults with other departments such as Environmental Compliance, Marketing, Quality, Safety, and Legal to provide technical input as needed.
- Participates in meetings, seminars, vendor trips, and training sessions to stay informed of new developments in the field.
SCOPE & IMPACT:
The role must plan, organize, and optimize the manufacturing process. With a thorough understanding of manufacturing concepts and the ability to pick up new technologies quickly. This role has a major impact on reducing downtime, improving efficiency, and reducing costs within manufacturing processes.
MINIMIUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field with 2 - 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
Familiar with products and processes improvement tools like VSM, DFM and DFA.
English intermediate proficiency.
Up to 25% Travel Required.
PREFERED REQUIREMENTS:
AutoCAD.
Knowledge/experience in lean manufacturing and statistical processes control.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Up to three (3) direct reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Works in a professional environment, as well as in a manufacturing facility subject to both internal and external hazards and environmental conditions and is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways. Often required to sit, repetitive hand movements (such as typing), hearing, speaking, standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, pulling, and pushing.
