The Hexcel Early Career Program is a highly coveted two-year rotational program that will partner you with exceptional professionals in the industry as you engage in complex and critical projects.  The program seeks out and recruits motivated college graduates who demonstrate leadership ability and academic excellence.  During this two-year program, participants will have diverse assignments lasting 12 months each.

The Early Career Program will help participants gain the necessary skills and knowledge through comprehensive and holistic learning experiences. Program graduates will have the technical, business, and leadership foundation to proactively and continuously make innovative contributions to the future of Hexcel in positions best suited to match their individual career goals.

Hexcel is currently seeking an Early Career Program - Research Scientist for our Decatur, AL location.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Provide insight into to the physical, rheological, and thermodynamic processes that occur during spinning
  • Develop models that describe the structure property relationship between carbon fiber precursor and carbon fiber
  • Characterize acrylic precursor fiber with state-of-the-art polymer and fiber characterization techniques
  • Develop new characterization methodologies for precursor fiber
  • Develop new precursor technologies that enhance carbon fiber properties

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering, Polymer and Fiber Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Performed research with hands-on experience in the areas of polymer processing, polymer physical chemistry, polymer rheology, fiber spinning, or polymer structure property relationships. Industrial experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member
  • Candidates must have less than 3 years of work experience (excluding intern & co-op experience).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Strong analytical background and skills.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated leadership potential
