JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Controller is primarily responsible for leading the month-end close process and preparing various accounting reports, preparing reconciliations in key financial statement categories (i.e. land accounts) and reviewing journal entries and reconciliations prepared by senior and staff accountants.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with the preparation of monthly financial reports, land purchases, and cash flow projection updates and forecasts
  • Prepares initial income and balance sheet variance analysis for review by the Division finance leaders
  • Prepares monthly journal entries
  • Coordinates accounting matters with other departments within the Division
  • Prepares operating budgets for multiple functional departments and assists them with budgeting and coding of expenditures
  • Prepares and reviews supporting documentation for transactions and general ledger balances in compliance with company policy and Sarbanes-Oxley documentation requirements
  • Assists in the feasibility process by preparing models to support the Land and Finance teams
  • Leads monthly reviews with Land and Finance teams to reconcile all land balances and development budgets. Ensures all lot cost assumptions are appropriate and documented
  • Assists with other Division tasks as assigned

  • Delegates work according to employee’s abilities and skills
  • Provides input to employee's performance evaluations
  • Assists in the identification of internal and external training opportunities
  • Provides continuous coaching with regard to functional and leadership standards (technical skills and behaviors)  
  • Assumes leadership role in proactive process improvement and supports best place to work culture at the Division level

REQUIRED EDUCATION: (degree, licenses, certifications, etc.)

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting (or equivalent in related field)
  • Certified Public Accounting license (active or inactive) preferred  

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: (work related, tools/equipment, software, etc.):

  • Related Functional Experience: Minimum of 3 years public and/or corporate accounting experience
  • Good knowledge of GAAP, financial reports, and annual reports
  • Good analytical skills 
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines under time pressure
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

PAY RANGE:

  • $77,400 - $96,700 per year
  • Hired applicant will be eligible to receive bonuses
