Hiring range $125,000.00 to $140,000.00. Compensation for this position will be determined by the prevailing market rate in the employee's country and the applicable statutory laws, in addition to Ipas's own pay philosophy and other factors, such as the employee's experience level and expertise.
The Ipas US Program Director provides leadership, oversight and strategic guidance for the growing Ipas US program. This includes leading strong collaborations with partners in the reproductive health, rights, and justice movements working across policy/advocacy, movement building, and clinical spaces with organizational partners and stakeholders and legislative champions at various levels of government, as well as with donors. Across Ipas’s global Network of more than 20 countries, the Program Director functions as a primary representative for the Ipas US Programmatic work.
The Ipas US Program Director is responsible for leading and managing strategic, programmatic, and operational aspects of the program and leads a skilled professional team to plan and implement a range of programs for reproductive justice in line with the mission of Ipas. The Ipas US Program Director leads the implementation of a program-specific strategic plan, annual operational plans, and works with Ipas Development teams to generate new funding to secure program expansion. They also ensure good stewardship of funding, adherence to Ipas policies and standards, and achievement of Ipas’s long-term strategic goals and objectives. The Ipas US Program Director values social justice, innovation, shared leadership, and high performance balanced with self and collective care. They have a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of the reproductive justice movement in the United States with the global South. The ideal candidate is intentional with their work and ensures that those most impacted within the abortion ecosystem are at the heart of everything the Ipas US program delivers.

Primary Responsibilities:

Program Leadership

  • Lead implementation of the Ipas US program strategic plan, in line with Ipas's overall strategic plan, global vision and mission, as well as lead design of future strategic planning.
  • Contribute to the mission and success of the Ipas network
  • Foster an inclusive environment where every person feels valued
  • Position Ipas as a key movement leader including leading and growing scopes of work in priority states and regions.
  • Build and nurture strong partnerships with key stakeholders based on US program strategy and long-term goals, including but not limited to movement partners, community-based and grass-roots organizations, governments, donors, health institutions, media, and other stakeholders
  • Work with program staff to ensure that the Ipas US program meets Ipas network standards, is contributing to the global network, and is adequately supported by the global organization
  • Mobilize resources to implement the US Program Strategy -this includes creating and implementing a fundraising plan, working closely with the US Node CEO and the Network Business Development Node, strategically engaging and deploying the US Program team, oversight of proposals and donor engagement
  • Lead and support the program team, including strengthening programmatic and operational capacity of staff as needed
  • Foster a high-trust, positive management, high-performance work culture, based on Ipas core values and organizational culture, including shared leadership
  • Represent the Ipas US program in diverse settings including with the media, at conferences and convenings and within the Ipas network.
  • Leadership of Ipas US Fiscal Sponsorship program to ensure a healthy program that strengthens the US abortion eco-system and manages risk to Ipas and the “sponsorees”.  The Director will work closely with Ipas Network Consolidation CFO and Finance team to manage this program and mitigate risk.

Program and Financial Management

  • Ensure robust processes are in place to support the utilization of innovative program and project management approaches as necessary based on the team’s needs and goals
  • Ensure full donor contractual compliance for each project portfolio, as well as compliance with Ipas's network standards and policies
  • Promote evidence-based decision making and lead in the adoption of innovative solutions to improve program effectiveness and efficiency
  • Ensure positive impact is documented and maintained through development of and support of a quality and monitoring process for continuous tracking of impact and quality assurance
  • They will be responsible, with support of the Ipas US program staff and Development team, to lead in revenue growth,
  • Support and lead strong financial management aligned with Ipas' financial compliance policies and award requirements, monitoring and sharing financial performance through regular reviews and follow up actions
  • Ensure the necessary controls are being followed to minimize and manage risk
  • Monitor safety and security issues, and ensure the program complies with Ipas safety and security standards and policies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Expertise (education and/or work experience) in a relevant field - Public Health, Policy and Advocacy, Law, Communications, Community Organizing, Gender Equality, or related areas
  • Demonstrated commitment to reproductive justice, including the ability to integrate other intersecting social justice movement areas into strategic planning, program development, and advocacy
  • Leads with empathy and respect.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience, and with increasing responsibility in Team Leadership and Program Management
  • Strategic leader with experience managing teams with empathy and respect.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex ever-changing external environment with acumen, entrepreneurial spirit, and invested in building the long-term future of Ipas in the United States
  • Experience and demonstrated success in fundraising and developing, cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors
  • Experience successfully managing grants, funds, and/or budgets of various sizes
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Previous experience as a CEO/President or in a senior leadership position at a reproductive health, rights, or justice organization
  • Ability to work with clear targets with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Fluency in language(s) of countries where Ipas work
