Our Opportunity

At Chewy, we aim to become the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents and our partners – vets and service providers – alike. Our success is measured by the happiness of the people and pets we serve, not simply by the amount of pet supplies we deliver. That’s why we continue to think of outside-the-Chewy-box of ways to delight, surprise, and thank our loyal pet lovers!

To support our continued growth, we are seeking a Director of Transportation. The Director of Transportation will own, develop, and drive the strategic vision for our inbound and middle mile networks including Transportation Operations, Shipment Planning, Execution, Network Scheduling and Carrier Management. This leader and their team will be responsible for the end-to-end transportation network, across all modes (TL, LTL, SP) for the inbound & middle mile networks. This role will work closely with procurement, finance, FC operations, transportation field operations, engineering, delivery experience along with functional support partners to establish and implement a long-term strategic vision for our domestic truckload networks. A successful candidate will index highly in Customers First, Act Like an Owner, Think Big and Accelerate Time in addition to being focused on both the Team Member and third-party experience. This leader will also need to have an ability to lead autonomously under time constraints and be able to build strong cross-functional teams to deliver network solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage a team responsible for the day-to-day movement of freight from vendors into Chewy FCs, freight between Chewy FCs, and movements into Chewy’s small parcel provider networks.
  • Develop and implement network solutions aligned to Chewy’s overarching transportation, consolidation, and customer strategy across multiple functional areas (safety, operations, fulfillment, middle mile, facilities, ops tech, third-party management, HR, procurement, finance, customer/delivery experience, etc.).
  • Own the five-year view and complete portfolio roadmap for domestic inbound and middle mile networks in addition to establishing metrics and mechanisms to meet business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain portfolio roadmaps ensuring physical and technical enhancements along with communicating impact clearly across the organization.
  • Build and drive a successful team by hiring exceptional talent, cultivating internal capability and promoting talent that Delivers Results.
  • Apply data to understand customer and carrier behavior and transform those insights into clear business and technical improvements.
  • Catalyze innovation by understanding market direction and trends to set priorities in collaboration with key partners using industry benchmarks and internal standards.
  • Proven ability to perform in-depth analysis, synthesize results, develop stories, build strategies and make recommendations to business and technical leaders.
  • Design long-term strategies and capabilities to facilitate groundbreaking innovation, enable growth, unlock incremental profitability and drive executive-level initiatives.

What You’ll Need

  • 10+ years’ experience in transportation logistics with an emphasis on domestic truckload, LTL, small parcel markets and logistics operations.
  • Operations experience that includes facility start up and engagement, operations performance management in addition to integration with upstream partners, middle mile trans, ops tech, delivery, and customer experience.
  • Proven ability to look at solutions in unconventional ways, build high performing teams, take ownership, and deliver results
  • Excellent leadership skills including sponsoring/leading cross-functional projects with broad scope and impact outside outbound while promoting collaboration between dependent teams.
  • Ability to do tradeoffs analysis between business objectives with the ability to think systemically. Actively adopt change, challenge the status quo and make recommendations for improvements. Sees and drives potential opportunities and works with shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills with all layers in the organization (front-line to senior executives) and ability to develop rapport with other functional leaders inside and outside areas of control to influence decision making.
  • Proven track record in taking on end-to-end ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment.

What We Do

We view pets and pet parents as family and are obsessed with meeting their needs and exceeding customer expectations through every interaction. Behind the scenes, our talented teams are made up of innovators, delighters, big-thinkers and of course, passionate pet people—creating a place where you'll be empowered to build, grow and unleash your fullest potential.

We don’t just stand by our company mission—we’re obsessed with it. We seek to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents and partners, everywhere. And we’re constantly finding new ways to do just that.

At Chewy, we understand pet parenthood is full of joyful highs and anxious lows. That’s why we’re here, standing alongside pet parents, providing everything their pets need for a happy, healthy life. We’re a leading online source for pet products, supplies, and prescriptions. We offer a broad selection of high-quality products and services at competitive prices with an exceptional level of customer care and a personal touch.

Since launching in 2011, we’ve combined the personalized service of your neighborhood pet store with the convenience and speed of e-commerce. We pride ourselves on being the only brand available 24/7/365 to support pet parents throughout their journey.

We have a rich history of being recognized for our deep care and personalization while going above and beyond for our customers and their pets.

We view pets and their people as more than just customers and look forward to meeting their needs and exceeding expectations through every interaction. With Chewy, no one pet-parents alone.

Our culture is for those who thrive on delivering results and becoming your best—no matter your role or location. At Chewy, our Operating Principles serve as a common language, or framework, that connects two of Chewy's most valuable elements—our people and our culture. The Operating Principles guide our character, capabilities, imagination, and methods for execution in support of our company's mission.

Why Work With Us

We're proud to be one of the fastest growing e-commerce companies of all time.

With growth comes the exciting opportunity to be a part of a world-class organization of engineering, product, and design team members, responsible for driving our latest innovations and designing "out-of-the Chewy box" experiences.
