The Global Director Trade Compliance will lead the company's global trade compliance program, reporting into the global ethics and compliance team, providing strategic direction and execution leadership. They will establish and maintain management systems and subject matter expertise to drive compliance with all applicable laws and regulations relating to global import and export activities and mitigate risks arising from those activities. The preferred location is Milwaukee but open to other locations.
 

How you will do it:
Providing strategic direction and execution leadership for global trade compliance and ensure compliance with all import/export laws and regulations.
Developing and implementing a global trade compliance strategy aligned with company goals.
Directly or indirectly run and otherwise lead a global team of compliance professionals, supporting their individual development, project management and program execution.
Create and enforce global trade compliance policies and procedures, including Export Controls, Licensing, Due Diligence, Import Regulations, Sanctions, Free Trade Agreements and more.
Direct Clarios regional leaders to ensure that their respective records, self-assessment(s), program verification process(es), improvement plans and trade documentation is complete and maintained.
Direct Clarios regional leaders to ensure that each business/location has implemented the vital operational procedures, procedural training and periodic auditing, as applicable to meet the requirements of their trade compliance program.
Oversee import/export registrations, permits, and licenses. Ensure accurate import/export filings and maintain quality
control. Ensure necessary document retention.
Assist with investigation of suspected violations of Trade Compliance regulations or related company policies, preparation of disclosures and development of remedial measures.
Collaborate with other functional areas (e.g. Legal, Finance, HR, Internal Audit, Sales, etc.) to advise on trade compliance issues and escalate to appropriate existing channels for investigating and resolution, collaborating with
management and external legal counsel as needed to resolve difficult Trade Compliance issues.
Assess and mitigate trade compliance risks through regular evaluations and proposed mitigation activities.
Conduct compliance reviews and audits, recommending and implementing improvements to close gaps.
Establish, track and report on appropriate critical metrics to measure the effectiveness of trade compliance operations globally
Maintain expertise in global trade laws, pending legislation, and industry trends.

What we look for:

Required:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, law, international relations or related curriculum with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in global trade compliance
Previous experience leading a team
Thorough understanding of technology tools, including trade compliance systems and ERP systems, with a proven record of implementing scalable compliance solutions (systems, procedures, and processes).
Thorough knowledge of trade and trade compliance issues, including export controls and import regulations, customs valuation, classification methodologies, origin, and licensing determinations. Ability to research complex theories of law in trade compliance to outline possible solutions and practical actions.

Preferred:
Experience working in a broad legal or compliance function in a multinational company, working and managing in a matrix structure across different regions and functions, and experience working in manufacturing.
