This position is a key member of the US Strategy and Business Development function. The incumbent has the requirement to support the build-out of Ferring’s access to products and technologies which will enable the company to realize its growth aspirations Globally. The incumbent will not manage a team directly but will be a demonstrated leader who will contribute to portfolio strategy, deal evaluations and negotiations and the transactions process as needed. This role requires a strong understanding of the biotech landscape, expertise in deal-making, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders. This role will also be responsible for managing the process of evaluating potential partners, including scheduling meetings and managing follow-up actions.

Responsibilities:

Contribute to the profitable growth of the company by supporting the development of the overall acquisition growth strategy related to assets/ companies to be in-licensed or acquired/divested for the US/Globally.

Participate and provide leadership in all facets of business development, ranging from gap analysis; strategy development; and execution of major corporate development transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other deal structures leading to the acquisition or licensure of later stage assets; providing post-close Alliance and/or integration leadership as needed.

Translate the organization’s strategic goals into tangible business development strategies and transactions.

Integrate individual transactions into the greater strategic objectives of Ferring. Develop deal structures based on strong financial modelling and business needs.

Key leader on the Strategy and Business Development team. Articulate strategic vision to motivate the business development team and people throughout the organization, while having the ability to generate work product and insights on an individual contributor basis with the opportunity to help manage junior team members.

Cultivate appropriate contacts at major and mid-size pharmaceutical/healthcare companies that will enhance Ferring’s business development and licensing activities. Interact comfortably and build relationships with the full range of external parties and senior management teams.

Lead deal/project teams on a variety of transactions from initial opportunity development and pitch, to transaction execution and closing. Act as Project Leader for transactions.

Provide business expertise to R&D with the commercial aspects of out- licensing and development or research arrangements with external parties including evaluation of financial proposals and contractual structuring and negotiation.

Learn new products and indications, identifying information sources, leveraging internal and external experts, and effectively working with cross-functional teams in order to identify relevant business development opportunities.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or related master’s degree is a valuable asset.

Minimum of 10 years of business experience with minimum of 5 in business development/related roles within investment banking and /or global pharmaceutical or biotech companies

Navigate and work collaboratively in a complex matrixed global environment; possess a high degree of organizational savvy.

Therapeutic Area knowledge in any of IVF, Gastroenterology, Uro-Oncology, Orthopedics, Interventional Pain, and Hospital/Infectious Disease, not required but a big plus.

Successful track record of investing time and developing collaborative, productive relationships across all functions and levels both internally and externally

The ability to engage, communicate, and present to C level stakeholders.

Financial acumen with respect to execution of multiple types of business transactions.

Experience with a broad array of deal structures across therapeutic categories (drug and non-drug)

Demonstrated experience with successful external transactions

Highly effective communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction and the confidence and cultural sensitivity to work effectively across a global enterprise

Effectively motivate, educate, develop, and lead colleagues to enable them to deliver in a fast-paced environment

High degree of emotional intelligence and strong listening skills.

Due to the inherent uncertain nature of such business development projects, the incumbent will demonstrate the ability to work with a high degree of ambiguity, shifting assumptions, differing points of views, and lack of validated information sources.

Our Compensation and Benefits
At Ferring, base salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is $174,000 to $254,150, which is the reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount paid may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, education and primary work location. Additional compensation for this role will be provided based on competitive annual incentive compensation targets in the form of an annual bonus - payouts are based on individual and company performance.
Benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with a premium differential, inverse to base salary, to be paid by employees, a 401k plan and company match, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, wellness benefits, reimbursement for certain tuition expenses, sick time of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, vacation time for full time employees to accrue up to 120 hours in the first four (4) years of employment, and 160 hours in the fifth (5th) year of employment as well as 15 paid holidays per year.
