The Market Director plans, directs and overseas operations and administration of the law enforcement, security, and emergency management functions for all facilities within the market, including training, policies and procedures for the Market based on the needs of the BSMH facilities and other strategic initiatives with a focus on providing subject matter expertise, incident response management, workplace violence prevention and personal safety and security, for the respective market. The Market Director will ensure all regulatory standards are being met and being reviewed annually.  Works effectively with executives and management committed to organizational goals; fosters collaboration among team members and teams internally and externally for the respective Market.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides work directives for security and law enforcement and sets deadlines to ensure completion of operational security functions.
  • Directs and coordinates, through security and law enforcement, Mercy Health activities and security functions, utilizing knowledge of established policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ensures Joint Commission/CMS/ODH/OSHA regulatory standards are met for the Protective Services
  • Department. Development, planning, implementation delivery of required OPOTA and PD training programs.
  • Fosters the spirit of team collaboration. Supports inter-disciplinary work teams, and partnership relationships
  • with internal and external customers and community partners (i.e. Fire Department, federal and state law
  • enforcement agencies, EMS, Courts, Correctional Facilities and others). Supports ongoing communication and
  • provides organizational updates to staff.
  • Role Models a strong commitment to the patient/customer experience and leads others to create the desired
  • patient/customer experience. Assures employees have the training, tools and equipment they need to
  • provide an extraordinary patient experience. Measures and keeps visible to team members the achievement
  • levels of patient experience. Immediately addresses behaviors that are not creating the desired
  • patient/customer experience, coaches for improvement, and holds employee accountable through
  • performance evaluation rating and corrective action.

Employment Qualifications

  • Required Minimum Education: 4 year/ Bachelors Degree Specialty/Major: Criminal Justice or Public Safety
  • Preferred Education: Graduate Degree (Masters) Specialty/Major: Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or Public Safety
  • Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 5-10 years of experience in public or private law enforcement sectors with at least 5 years of leadership experience with a focus on program development.
  • Successfully complete law enforcement background check in addition to employment policy background check.
  • Successfully qualify and remain current with duty weapons including ECD as directed to maintain state and/or department requirements.
  • Successfully complete AED-CPR training as per department policy and procedure.
  • Computer literacy at intermediate level for Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Healthcare Safety and Emergency Management Professional certifications or equivalent training and demonstrated leadership in the area of healthcare emergency management.
  • Completion of NIMS IS courses 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 & 800.
