Athlete Experience (AX) is a cross functional, OMNI initiative that is at the heart of DICK’s transformation to become the best Sports Company in the World. We endeavor to evolve how we serve the Athlete to be more holistic and provide a relationship-based offering that begins with motivating our athlete in sport through to helping them improve their game. Under the AX portfolio, we connect across our initiatives of Loyalty, Personalization, Retail, Services and Performance. As Director of Portfolio & Program Management you will be responsible for the overall health of the AX portfolio. This entails leading a team of portfolio and program managers to plan, manage, report and facilitate the response to issues within the various products and programs of AX. You will apply and manage the tools used to track progress. You will engage in cross cutting issue resolution. You will play central role during the planning phases of the work. You will be a key member of the AX leadership team that crosses business, transformation and technology to support the culture and operating model of the team and work.

This role will directly manage a team of Portfolio and Program Managers (PPM) across the Athlete Experience portfolio.

This position can be on-site/hybrid at Dick's Sporting Goods corporate headquarters or open to remote arrangement.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Provides insight, direction and leadership regarding Portfolio Management and Program Management
  • Develops and maintains cross portfolio estimation and capacity planning models
  • Supports strategic cross portfolio planning, prioritization, budgeting, and goal setting across the AX portfolio of work
  • Provides clear and concise communication on strategy, prioritization, tradeoff decisions, business cases, status updates, funding and resourcing needs, and risk mitigation recommendation
  • Facilitates Senior Executive level portfolio planning, prioritization, and status update discussions
  • Defines and activates standards for agile & lean portfolio and program management processes, services, and deliverables while continually assessing, growing, and enhancing those capabilities.
  • Uses insight, experience, and knowledge to drive the utilization of technology to support the enablement of portfolio and program management processes and practices
  • Drives portfolio level reporting practices and alignment between financial tracking and value delivery, working in partnership with Finance leadership
  • Works with teams to define portfolio level metrics and measurement practices and align goals across the organization
  • Drives alignment across the organization, and with key stakeholders, to enable delivery success
  • Leads the activation and deployment of new practices, methodologies and tools with a focus on change management
  • Manages cross portfolio level issues and risks across teams, helping to remove barriers · Defines and Maintains ongoing Governance (reporting, monitoring, escalation, controls)
  • Work with appropriate stakeholders, including outside parties, to undertake analysis and define options and recommendations, and ultimately deliver value.
  • Partners on issue resolution across the portfolio, supporting Portfolio and Program Managers in this process and at times manages directly
  • Creates and fosters a positive culture where teammates are excited to work and grow professionally
  • Sets clear performance standards for teammates
  • Attracts, retains, and develops top talent to build a strong team
  • Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to the above roles, and serves as an escalation point to address critical actions or issues.
  • Conducts regular status meetings, quarterly check-ins, and annual reviews.
  • Reviews teammate career development plans and conducts regular career development conversations
  • Fosters collaboration with team members to drive consistency across teams, and finds opportunities to expose teammates to career interests
  • Guides team members in strategy, alignment, analysis, and execution tasks within and across technology teams
  • Participates in and contributes to learning activities around modern engineering practices (communities of practice)
  • Mentors Program leaders across the AX ecosystem

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate needs to have strong portfolio management experience, great executive presence, strong story telling abilities, and an understanding of how foundational technologies (i.e. Security, Infrastructure, Platform, Network, Reliability & Test Engineering, etc.) help unlock business capabilities.

  • Must have at least 7-10 years of portfolio and/or program management in a mid to large, matrixed organization, with a minimum of 3 years in a Director level role.

  • Must have prior experience and track record of managing programs within the omni-channel retail industry.

  • Experience managing complex, cross-functional, transformational business initiatives beyond pure technology projects.

  • Experience delivering technology solutions using agile frameworks and methodology.

  • Masters degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field strongly preferred.

  • Professional certifications (e.g. PgMP, PMP, SAFe, CSM, Lean Six Sigma) preferred.

  • Experience in consulting, Mar-Tech, Finance and/or Strategy preferred.

Targeted Pay Range: $127,000.00 - $237,800.00. This is part of a competitive total rewards package that could include other components such as: incentive, equity and benefits. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
