As Director, Market Analysis, you will be responsible for market analysis efforts to support strategic decision-making and optimize business performance in the power markets that NPI operates. With a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, you will support the business on a global level by working closely with colleagues in the Development, Origination and Operations teams.
This role will be based in Toronto, and you will be expected to work from our corporate office a minimum of 3 times a week in line with our hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategy for the market analysis team to cover all NPI’s core and target markets.
- Conduct data driven analysis to develop NPI’s in-house view on all commodity and power prices that underpin project business cases for development and operational projects. Work with Risk Management to identify and quantify risks.
- Consider external vendor’s views to supplement in-house analysis or to bridge any gaps, where appropriate.
- Manage external vendor relationships.
- Stay up to date with market developments and identify market opportunities and risks through insights, research, and analysis.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, and other internal stakeholders to provide actionable insights that inform strategy and operational decisions.
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of materials to support business decisions at all levels.
- Lead the Market analysis team; grow as needed to support NPI’s business objectives.
- Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience
- Completed Undergraduate Degree in business, economics, finance, or engineering.
- Professional Designation such as CPA, CFA, ERP, P. Eng., etc.; A related graduate degree is also desirable.
- 10-15 years of experience assessing, modelling and reporting on energy markets including North American and European markets covering both power and gas.
- Significant experience monitoring market regulatory bodies and assessing impacts of regulatory changes to business models and energy markets.

Northland Power is an independent power producer founded in 1987, and publicly traded since 1997. Northland develops, builds, owns and operates sustainable infrastructure assets that produce efficient natural gas and green solar and wind energy, providing long-term value to shareholders, stakeholders and host communities.
We have operating facilities that generate 2,681 MW (gross) and 2,266 MW (net) of electricity, with an additional 130 MW (gross) of generating capacity under construction and 2,674 MW (gross) and 1,645 (net) of generating capacity in advanced development.
