Artisan Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Investment Accounting to lead the firm’s investment accounting functions. This role offers a unique opportunity to manage portfolio accounting processes and controls for a variety of complex financial instruments, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of investment records. The Director will play a key role in overseeing portfolio data stewardship and supporting the use of investment data across the organization. Additionally, the Director will provide expert guidance on IBOR system developments and related initiatives. This position requires close collaboration with both internal teams and external partners, with a strong focus on enhancing efficiency and driving continuous improvement in accounting practices.
The Director must have demonstrated experience successfully managing a team. They will be responsible for providing effective coaching and performance feedback, and building expertise while fostering a culture of accountability and establishing departmental best practices.

Milwaukee preferred. Relocation offered. Other locations will be considered with regular travel to Milwaukee headquarters required.
Salary Range: $150,000 - $225,000
Specific placement within the provided range will be determined by an individual’s geographic location as well as relevant experience and skills for the role. Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Associates may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon Firm and individual performance.
Responsibilities
The candidate can expect to:
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Artisan’s multiple internal books of records (IBORs), accounting methodologies, data flows and stakeholder needs to ensure operational excellence in the accounting of investment transactions in adherence to internal policies
- Oversee three IBORs, including the accurate and timely recordkeeping and completion of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close cycles for complex instruments
- Manage and develop a team responsible for investment accounting data and related workflows including reconciliation, cash flows, corporate actions and billing
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality investment data for use by downstream teams including client reporting, performance analytics, compliance and risk management. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and address gaps or inefficiencies
- Partner on internal pricing oversight (i.e., pricing methodologies, timing, complex instruments, Valuation Committee engagement)
- Develop, document and ensure adherence to an internal control framework for accurate investment accounting and identify and mitigate any related operational risks
- Provide system strategy, roadmap and vendor management for IBOR technology and other proprietary or third-party systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure robust financial controls and reporting
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field; advanced certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) are highly preferred
- At least 10 years of experience as an effective manager and business leader, capable of growing and developing a team of resources through coaching and mentoring
- Extensive knowledge and proven application of investment accounting principles and best practices with complex instruments, including but not limited to equity, fixed income, complex derivatives, public and private structured securities
- Strong work ethic, high attention to detail, proactive self-starter and demonstrated reliability to organize and execute
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience fostering a culture of collaboration and integrity
- Executive presence and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
- Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook; experience with internal accounting systems necessary (such as Advent Geneva, SimCorp, Aladdin)
- Experience with SQL, Tableau and SWIFT is a plus
