Position Summary

A career in Information Technology Leadership will provide the opportunity to be responsible for a variety of IT services functions that could include designing, developing, modifying, and implementing short- and long-term solutions to information technology (IT) needs through new and existing applications, systems architecture, network systems and applications infrastructure. This includes reviewing system requirements and business processes; coding, testing, debugging and implementing software solutions.
The Director, Information Technology, Infrastructure Operations oversees a staff of technical IT engineers who are responsible for IT and OT strategic and operational installation, design, configuration, support operations, resiliency, and performance of IT network components, circuits, IT Hardware, servers, data centers, cloud, remote access, systems and specified computer operating systems. They will have overall accountability for technical engineer team leadership, architecture, vendor partners, policy, procedures, and management of all SJI IT infrastructure operations. This position will report into the Vice President, IT Service Delivery, and is expected that this role’s decisions will directly impact the short-term operational plan (6 months-1 year) and our technology strategic roadmap (2-5 years).

Essential Functions:

  • Managing the strategic and tactical operations of a broad functional area through subordinate managers and/or high-level individual contributors
  • Effectively cascading functional strategy and contributing to development of organizational policies
  • Initiating and leading departmental or interdepartmental strategic initiatives
  • Providing leadership and technical expertise for the successful management of the function
  • Overall planning and implementing budget
  • Scope, define, and oversee delivery of technical engineering projects.
  • Define, review, and maintain policies and procedures for IT management.
  • Maintain involvement in technology news and changing trends in the industry and provide management and internal teams with updates.
  • Identify new solutions through research and collaboration with internal and external sources to improve/enhance partner experience.
  • Maintain an expert level of knowledge in area of expertise by maintaining certifications current, attending seminars or though other related activities.
  • Build effective relationships and partnership with IT vendors to enable IT strategy, operations, placing orders, and monitoring provided services/products.
  • Mentor team members and help them reach their full potential.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of IT infrastructure, operating system, networking, or IT delivery, project delivery, engineer, or support operations experience.
  • 10+ years technical team experience in directly or indirectly supervising and/or setting direction for technical engineers or teams in a medium to large IT environment, including responsibility for project delivery (preferred).
  • 10+ years’ experience in procuring, working with, and managing vendors, partners, and/or contractors to deliver IT services in accordance with service level agreements (SLA).
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, team leadership, innovation, aligning leadership, and expertise in building teams, with the ability to address people and process complexities.
  • Experience in managing reliable, secure, performant, and resilient operations for on-premise data centers; designing, implementing and/or supporting Call Centers, SCADA/OT environments, Cloud Environments, Disaster Recovery solutions, VPN, Remote Access, and Telephony/Voice/IVR systems, preferred. 
  • Strong triage, troubleshooting, and issue resolution skills.  Ability to participate in major outages and provide input to shorten resolution window.
  • Incident management and root cause analysis experience.
  • Availability for on-call escalation support may be required nights and weekends.

Preferred Skills:

  • Cisco networking, Fortinet, VMware, Citrix, and RingCentral knowledge preferred.

Qualifications

Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology with a minimum of 11 years of relevant experience, or;
  • Master’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • In addition, a minimum of 3 years of leadership experience is required.

Compensation Range:

$140,000 - 210,000

We are committed to pay transparency and ensuring equitability compensation for all employees. The pay range for this position reflects the base salary only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or other forms of compensation that might be part of the total compensation package. The specific salary offered will be based on a candidate’s qualifications, education, and experience.
