About the Role

This is not your typical finance position. As the Director of FP&A, you will lead the FP&A function, driving strategic financial decision-making and enhancing the company’s financial planning process. You will develop and manage financial models, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure that financial insights inform critical business decisions. Your leadership will be essential in shaping the Company's financial direction, while also optimizing operational efficiency and maximizing the impact of investments.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Financial Modeling: Lead and manage the company’s 3-statement financial model, continuously refining and improving model assumptions and data flows to support business objectives. Oversee updates and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Revenue and Profitability Analysis: Drive current quarter revenue modeling and cohort analysis, helping to identify key business drivers and supporting data-driven decision-making. Contribute to forecasting and financial planning to ensure alignment with business targets.
  • Budgeting & Strategic Planning: Oversee quarterly planning and long-range planning processes. Work with cross-functional leaders to establish revenue targets, manage operating expenses, and ensure investment decisions are optimized.
  • Investment Analysis: Lead modeling efforts for investment opportunities, ensuring a data-driven approach for assessing the potential financial impact of strategic initiatives.
  • Performance Metrics & Reporting: Partner with internal teams to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and create timely, actionable reports that measure performance against targets. Provide insights to senior leadership to drive business actions.
  • Pricing Strategy & Profitability: Collaborate closely with product teams to develop and refine pricing strategies that maximize profitability while considering the competitive landscape. Provide insights into cost structures, margins, and competitive positioning to ensure that each product is optimally priced and aligned with overall business goals.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor a high-performing FP&A team, fostering growth and collaboration while aligning financial goals with organizational priorities.

A Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in corporate finance, investment banking, private equity, consulting, or FP&A leadership, with a focus on financial modeling and strategic decision-making.
  • Experience in Advertising Technology: Demonstrated experience working within the ad tech industry, with a deep understanding of its business model, revenue streams, and market dynamics. Ability to apply financial acumen to address industry-specific challenges, drive growth, and optimize profitability within the ad tech space.
  • Financial Expertise: Extensive experience with financial statements, 3-statement models, and forecasting. Proven ability to manage and refine financial models, automate processes, and improve accuracy.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with experience leading and developing a high-performing FP&A team. Ability to communicate complex financial information to senior leadership and influence decision-making.
  • Advanced Analytical Skills: Expertise in building sophisticated financial models, with proficiency in Excel and familiarity with SQL or other data query languages. Comfortable using data to drive business decisions.
  • M&A and Fundraising Due Diligence: Extensive experience in leading and supporting M&A and fundraising due diligence processes. Strong ability to create and refine financial models for M&A transactions, fundraising scenarios, and related strategic initiatives, including valuation analysis, synergies, and financial structuring.
  • AI Enthusiast: Strong interest in incorporating AI tools into financial analysis, including forecasting, modeling, and decision-making. You have a passion for exploring AI and machine learning tools and technologies that can optimize financial processes.
  • Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with financial technologies and systems. Experience with tools like Looker, Pigment, or other financial modeling and reporting platforms is a plus.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Exceptional ability to work cross-functionally with other departments and influence decision-making with actionable financial insights.
  • Results-Oriented: Strong focus on generating measurable results and driving efficiency in financial planning and analysis.
  • Multi-layered Scenario Planning: Experience in scenario planning, particularly in industries with high volatility and seasonality, using AI-enhanced tools to improve forecasting accuracy.
  • Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics, statistics, or business administration. An MBA or other relevant graduate-level qualification is preferred.

Location: Boulder, Colorado - Candidates must currently live in the Boulder/Denver area. Sovrn’s hybrid schedule includes three days onsite (or more depending on the role). #LI-Hybrid

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this position is $185,000 to $215,000 annually. In addition to the base salary, the total compensation package includes bonus, equity, and benefits. Actual earnings may vary depending on the candidate's direct experience, skills, industry knowledge, and location.
