What you’ll do

We are seeking an expert-level Data Privacy Technology Consultant with deep technical expertise in computer forensics, privacy control testing, and consumer-facing product assessments. The ideal candidate will have experience evaluating the privacy and security implications of web applications, mobile apps, online marketing technologies (pixels, trackers, beacons), consent data flows, and personal data mapping. This role involves analyzing data collection, use, and sharing practices, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations, and providing technical insights to legal and executive teams. Experience in drafting expert reports and testifying in legal proceedings is highly desirable, but not required.

You’ll be part of the team supporting our Investigations, Compliance & Privacy practice within Risk Advisory. We work with top-tier clients on high-impact privacy projects that shape corporate compliance strategies. Responsibilities include:

• Conduct forensic analyses to assess technical privacy controls, identifying vulnerabilities in web applications, mobile apps, and online tracking technologies.
• Perform in-depth privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and technical audits to evaluate compliance with global data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
• Investigate and document data flows, personal data collection, and sharing practices across digital ecosystems.
• Design and test technical privacy controls, including encryption, data anonymization, consent management, and access controls.
• Analyze the implementation and effectiveness of third-party tracking technologies (e.g., cookies, beacons, pixels, SDKs) used in advertising and marketing campaigns.
• Provide technical guidance to legal, compliance, and security teams on mitigating risks associated with online data collection and processing.
• Draft detailed expert reports summarizing findings for legal counsel, regulatory bodies, and executive stakeholders.
• Serve as an expert witness in litigation and regulatory enforcement actions, providing technical testimony on privacy and security matters.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to embed privacy-by-design principles into development lifecycles.
• Stay updated on emerging threats, privacy-enhancing technologies, and regulatory developments to ensure proactive risk management.

What you’ll need

• 8 or more years of experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, or digital forensics, with a focus on privacy technology assessments
• Prior experience in consulting preferred, such as Big 4 Consulting Firms; additional experience in law enforcement or regulatory agencies highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to draft expert reports.
• Provide testimony in legal or regulatory proceedings not required, but highly valued.
• Expert-level knowledge of privacy technologies, forensic analysis, and online tracking mechanisms.
• Experience working in digital forensics, incident response, or threat intelligence related to privacy and security.
• Strong hands-on experience in reverse engineering, network traffic analysis, and application security testing. Familiarity with data mapping tools, privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), and consent management platforms.
• Proficiency with tools used for web tracking analysis, forensic investigations, and privacy compliance testing.
• Deep understanding of global data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, ePrivacy Directive) and their technical implications.
• Experience working closely with legal teams, regulators, and law enforcement on privacy-related investigations and compliance matters.
• Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical issues into actionable insights.
• CIPT (Certified Information Privacy Technologist) or CIPP certification (CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM) strongly preferred.
• Programming skills in Java, Python, or other relevant languages are a plus, especially for privacy-focused software development, automation, or forensic analysis.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to travel up to 25% for client or business needs.
• Willingness to work outside of normal U.S. business hours, and in particular as unique projects/needs arise.
• Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.

The salary range for this role takes into account a number of factors and is between $165,000 - $400,000 with potential eligibility for annual discretionary bonus.
