The team builds internal infrastructure which enables access to analytical data about Clio's business as well as external infrastructure to help our customers derive insights and make business decisions about the operations of their firm. Externally and internally, this team helps power business decisions from the tactical to the strategic.
At Clio we strive to be both human and high performing. For a Director of Data Engineering this means supporting and growing your people as well as their development practices and velocity. The ideal candidate is someone who can collaborate across the organization to pull together common threads from various data owners and stakeholders, foster discussions about resolving common friction points and unknowns, and ultimately put their hands on the keyboard to “lead from the front” and create solutions. The successful candidate will have a mandate to support and accelerate all data initiatives at Clio as well as a license to help define our data strategy.
A day in the life might look like:
-
Directly supervise, mentor, and collaborate with data engineering managers and contributors who are in the thick of it every day
-
Navigate Clio to distill requirements, find friction points, and ultimately deliver impactful internal solutions that provide understanding and power decision-making
-
Partner with Clio’s product development teams to ensure that all of Clio’s products are able to provide actionable business insights for the legal firms that use them
-
Work closely with the recruiting/people team to actively recruit and hire top talent to support Clio’s ambitious growth plans for our infrastructure and development teams
You may be a fit for this role if you have:
-
Demonstrated success as a senior data engineering leader, but are still comfortable pushing code to production
-
A strong background in hands-on software development and data engineering
-
Skill managing and mentoring high-performing teams, nurturing talent, and guiding individuals toward professional growth and development
-
Demonstrated the ability to hire a team of high-performance data engineers who deliver broad impact across the business
-
A diverse base of knowledge that allows you to help your team solve complex technical problems
-
Strong opinions that are weakly held, and foster that same attitude in others
-
A habit of providing honest, actionable feedback to your team and encouraging your team to reciprocate
-
The ability to synthesize roadmaps that guide your team, but aren't beholden to them -- you easily adapt to a constantly changing world.
Serious bonus points if you have:
-
A philosophy on what makes for great engineering teams;
-
Experience with AirFlow;
-
Experience with Databricks;
-
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code.
