Job Overview

The Director of Brand Experience will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our brand strategy and ensuring a cohesive and consistent brand experience across all brand touchpoints. From enforcing and evolving our master brand guidelines to creating packaging for our private label brands, to creating eco-friendly bags for fresh, the Director of Brand Experience needs to set up and execute on OKRs and foundational processes that significantly influence customer perception, experience and loyalty in and outside the Coupang Shopping app. The Director of Brand Experience will be an inspirational leader who can drive strategic vision at the company level while also being hands-on to uplevel the visual standard and quality of the overall brand and design system. The Director of Brand Experience will be responsible for leading a team of junior to senior designers who will produce brand guidelines, visual assets and visual deliverables across online and offline touch points.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Design experiences related to services, company, corporate culture 
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive brand and design system that includes UI components, patterns, and guidelines  
  • Discover and design on/offline touch points for branding, marketing and promotions  
  • Produce, distribute and manage visual brand assets and guides
  • Coordinate and expertly present to various teams across Marketing, UX, Product Legal, and Executive Leadership teams
  • Establish brand operation and design system strategies 
  • Make data-driven, wise decisions that are relatable and logical  
  • Inspire and mentor a team of designers, providing guidance and feedback to ensure high-quality design output that adheres to our brand standards
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • High level of attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining design consistency and quality

Minimum Requirement  

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, HCI, Computer Science, Psychology, Ethnography or equivalent practical experience. 
  • Outstanding portfolio demonstrating experience implementing typography, graphic design, on/offline brand touchpoints 
  • Strong understanding of UI/UX principles, visual design, and interaction design
  • 10+ years of experience delivering high quality designs
  • Understanding of product design and experience producing deliverables through art directing 
  • Experience serving as a manager (leading projects, managing teams and mentoring junior / senior designers
  • Experience leading various stakeholders and operating and managing complex projects  
  • Experience establishing and running overall strategies for a project 
  • Ability to communicate about deliverables based on clear grounds and logic  
  • Proficient at using design tools such as Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Sketch, etc.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, either in English or Korean

  • Able to operate independently to manage projects in a fast-paced environment and remain focused amidst frequently changing requirements. 
  • Able to pitch and hold in depth discussions with the C-level stakeholders.
