General Description:

As a key strategic leader, the Director of Brand, Communications, and Digital Media will collaborate with the Chief Business Development & Marketing Officer, Directors of Business Development, Director of Marketing Operations, Director of Public Relations, partners, and other senior stakeholders in implementing and supporting firmwide branding, communications, and practice-specific marketing strategies and priorities.

The Director of Brand, Communications, and Digital Media will be responsible for creating and enhancing the firm’s brand and the development and execution of content marketing strategy. This role will oversee all external and internal visual identity and content marketing initiatives across multiple platforms and formats to drive brand recognition and awareness, leads and increase client engagement.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee brand identity and ensure consistency across all marketing initiatives and communications.
  • Assess the firm’s brand and content strategy and make recommendations for improvement that are consistent with the firm’s strategy and culture.
  • Champion and serve as a steward for the firm’s brand and visual identity and drive strategic and creative direction for the evolution of the brand, including digital and marketing communications.
  • Monitor and measure brand performance using data and analytics.
  • Collaborate closely with senior lawyers to understand market challenges, business opportunities, and competitive elements and align our content marketing strategy to address these.
  • Work with firm committees on the firm’s brand as it relates to key constituents and initiatives, tailoring appropriately, but also ensuring appropriate consistency across all groups, stakeholders, and ventures.
  • Partner with department colleagues in public relations, business development, recruiting, and other functional areas, globally and firmwide.
  • Work with the Marketing leadership team to develop, recruit, and manage creative and content marketing teams.
  • Drive brand identity and content strategy that supports and extends short- and long-term marketing and business initiatives.
  • Create innovative and highly engaging campaigns with a digital-first focus.
  • Integrate content marketing activities within traditional business development and marketing campaigns.
  • Execute our visual identity to ensure design elements and content is consistently on-brand (in terms of style, quality and tone of voice), and optimized for collateral materials using published brand guidelines.
  • Oversee team content calendar for key practice areas and initiatives.
  • Supervise designers, writers/editors, content strategists.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging strategies in brand marketing.
  • Assess the competitive landscape while continuing to create and drive visionary digital campaigns.
  • Develop standards, systems and best practices for visual execution, content creation, distribution, maintenance, content retrieval, and material repurposing.
  • Establish workflow for requesting, creating, editing, versioning, publishing, and archiving visual execution and content.
  • Lead selection, direct, and manage relationships with creative agencies and other outside providers. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within the stipulated scope and budget.

  • Well-rounded conceptual design skills, with a broad knowledge of interactive/digital experiences including web, mobile, email marketing, and multimedia.
  • Experience creating integrated content for all marketing channels, from digital and social media, to paid media, mobile, and print; working knowledge of print, video and audio production and principals; understanding of basic advertising principles, particular digital advertising.
  • Proven success mentoring, managing, and developing high-performing teams.

Required Qualifications & Education:

  • 15+ years of relevant branding, design, and creative leadership experience, with a strong digital marketing background, in highly sophisticated environments, including law firm, professional services or financial services.
  • Knowledge of PC, Mac applications, including the entire suite of MS Office applications, and Adobe Creative suite; working knowledge of project management and digital marketing tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

This position may be filled in Illinois, District of Columbia, or New York. The base salary ranges for this position are listed below. These ranges may not be applicable to other locations.  An individual's actual compensation will depend on the individual's qualifications and experience. In addition to the base compensation, Holland & Knight provides bonus opportunities and an exceptional benefits package.

  • Illinois – $220,000 - $330,000/yr
  • District of Columbia – $240,000 - $360,000/yr
  • New York City – $240,000 - $360,000/yr
  • California - $240,000 - $360,000/yr
