The Opportunity:

TrueCar is seeking a dynamic Director of Business Development to expand our affinity partner portfolio. In this key leadership role, you will identify, negotiate, and secure strategic partnerships with member organizations, financial institutions, automotive publishers, and other consumer brands. The goal is to establish TrueCar-powered car-buying programs that offer unique benefits to partner audiences while driving increased consumer demand to the TrueCar platform. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Head of Partnerships, you will play a vital role in driving business growth and enhancing TrueCar's market presence.

How you’ll contribute to TrueCar’s success:

  • Identify and prioritize consumer brands across several verticals that can be impactful additions to TrueCar’s affinity network – specifically by driving increased consumer demand to TrueCar’s shopping platform and increasing car sales.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective partners through proactive outreach, relationship building, and management.
  • Develop a go-to-market strategy that includes qualifying prospects, developing pitch materials, identifying the right contacts, establishing relationships, presenting, and – ultimately – closing partnership deals with new affinity organizations.
  • Grow and maintain relationships with senior leaders and executives across the organizations within TrueCar’s prospective affinity partner pipeline.
  • Lead negotiation efforts and collaborate with internal stakeholders to finalize partnership agreements.
  • Ability to quickly identify and understand key business terms within partner agreements and translate how the terms impact each respective party, including P&L statements.
  • Work with cross-functional teams like Marketing, Product, Engineering, Analytics, Creative, and Operations to drive the implementation of partnership programs and initiatives to ensure successful launch.
  • Monitor and analyze partnership performance metrics, providing regular reporting and insights to Senior Leadership.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and market developments to identify new opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with our Affinity Partner Development team to support the ongoing needs and growth initiatives of TrueCar’s affinity partnerships.
  • Develop trusting relationships and open communication, while accepting feedback (up and down).

Your Expertise: 

  • Proven track record of successfully identifying and executing partnership opportunities that resulted in significant business growth.
  • Influential negotiation skills and the ability to navigate complex partnership agreements.
  • Clear, informative, and persuasive communication skills with the ability to present complex information to a broad audience.
  • Strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial attitude, and relentless at finding creative ways to grow the affinity partner channel.
  • Inquisitive analytical mind with the ability to analyze and curate various data inputs to provide informative and impactful recommendations that drive business decisions and results.
  • Self-driven and comfortable in a fast-changing, dynamic environment with aggressive schedules.
  • Demonstrates a skillful combination of the will to win and drive for business results mixed with a likable, warm, and kind interpersonal style capable of inspiring teams to perform to their maximum potential.
  • Ability to travel by airplane or car including overnight trips up to 50% of the time.

Base salary + target incentive: $225,000 - $250,000

As a crew member, you’ll be primarily based out of your home as a part of our Dynamic Workplace strategy.
