The Opportunity:
TrueCar is seeking a focused Director, Accounting to lead a high-performing general ledger accounting team as an integral part of the overall corporate finance group. In this role reporting to the VP, Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial close process. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical accounting background and a passion for coaching and developing others.
How you will contribute to TrueCar’s success:
- Lead the G/L team in day-to-day accounting activities and ensure accurate and timely completion of all monthly, quarterly, and year-end close tasks in accordance with GAAP.
- Review financials, including budget versus actual and period-over-period variance analysis.
- Coordinate with Finance to provide insights during the budgeting process and investigate variances in budget versus actuals.
- Work cross-functionally on new products and initiatives to understand the financial impact and ensure accounting issues are identified and mitigated.
- Research and develop accounting policy memos for new products and as new accounting guidance is issued.
- Administer the Workday financial system including reviewing and approving system changes impacting the financials.
- Maintain a strong internal control environment, updating the design and scope of controls as the business evolves to maintain the integrity of financial reporting.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support their quarterly review and annual audit procedures.
- Develop, support, and drive improvements to the systems, policies, and procedures for greater efficiency while maintaining meaningful and usable financial data.
- Provide leadership and development to direct and indirect reports. Staffing responsibilities include training and development of the G/L team; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising employee performance; and providing constructive feedback.
- Assist with ad hoc projects as needed.
Your Expertise:
- Proven relevant experience including people leadership with a public company or equivalent accounting firm experience (some experience in public accounting preferred)
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and technical accounting experience
- Ability to independently research technical accounting issues and reach well-reasoned conclusions
- Experience with SEC filings including 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K filings
- Experience operating in a SOX internal control environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Active CPA license is preferred
Base salary range: $141,000 - $216,000
