Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Utilizes the industry's best practices in the Information Technology field to lead a team of technical experts in massive scalable network design, implementation, and operations.
     
  • Recommends and develops strategic plans for network and security development and operations, hardware and software purchases, budget, and staffing.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, installation, and operation of information and functional systems for the organization.
     
  • Manages compliance (PCI, Security compliance, SLA attainment for large customer deployments). Develops, implements, and monitors management information systems policies and controls to ensure data accuracy, security, and legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates as senior member of the IT management team in driving the creation and management of innovative cloud-based applications on a massive scale for the enterprise. Consults with management to analyze computer system needs and functional operations, to determine scope and priorities of projects, and to discuss network capacity and equipment acquisitions.
  • Leads decision making on network architecture, vendor selection and manages vendor negotiations. Negotiates and contracts with consultants, technical personnel, and vendors for services and products.
  • Develops, maintains, and tests disaster recovery plans.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages assigned staff in the segment area. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supports and enforces all company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner, taking corrective action whenever necessary.

Client Responsibilities

This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written).  One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; Respond promptly to client needs; Solicit client feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; Meet commitments to clients.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience) along with at least 10+ years' Information Technology, Networking, and Infrastructure experience. Prior experience in a technical Director or Management role; hands on expertise leading and directing the work of others; prior experience managing large-scale technical projects and infrastructure upgrades. Requires a minimum of 7-8 years' experience in a senior technical management role. Requires a minimum of 10 years of demonstrated subject matter expertise and hands-on technical experience in Network Engineering. Additionally, a minimum of 5+ years' experience managing and mentoring Network Engineering professionals.

Microsoft Office and Windows; UNIX and Linux

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

None required, CCIE preferred

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Solid knowledge of network engineering and network security concepts, practices, and procedures and the industry best practices.
  • Recent hands-on experience with Cisco and Checkpoint equipment
  • Proven ability to excel as a cross-functional technical leader in a large organization working with complex concepts;
  • Good interpersonal and communication (written/verbal) skills.
  • Expert understanding of networking technologies with respect to server virtualization environments using VMWare.
  • Familiar with HIPAA, SOX and PCI requirements.
  • Experience developing network management reporting; good communication skills to effectively convey relevant information with peers and management on network utilization and capacity

Language Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Location

This position must work on-site at the San Diego Headquarters for purposes of providing adequate support to internal clients; being available for face-to-face interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as for facilitation of quick and effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders. Remote work is not an option for these purposes.

Working Hours

This is an exempt level position requiring one to work the hours needed to get the job done. Therefore one must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required. This may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business. Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Travel

This position may require domestic and international travel. A valid passport and ability to leave the United States is required.
