We are currently seeking a Dunedin-based Development Scientist to elevate our capabilities in product development and scientific research.
Role Overview:
The Development Scientist role is a vital part of our team, driving the innovation and development of new products within the Oritain framework. You will play a key role in seeing product through from customer need to concept, development and implemented into production. You will work collaboratively across various departments to aid in delivering our business goals. The role is full-time and is based at our Central Dunedin site. There may be some occasional travel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand stakeholder problems and requirements by gathering relevant & specific information from them and defining their objectives in technical terms.
- Assist in the design and planning of technical solutions to meet stakeholder needs including product testing and validation.
- Undertake technical and scientific work activities to a complete state, in liine with scoped plans and stakeholder expectataions.
- Specify what outcomes look like for a resulting technical product that resolves the customer need, ensuring that plans have clear completion criteria, timelines, and definition of done and delivered within budget.
- Delivering commitments to stakeholders in a well communicated timeframe. Setting and meeting clear, realistic deadlines.
- Collaborate with other functions within Oritain to achieve technical development objectives eg: analytical development & measurement, statistical development, sample collection, data management and software improvements.
- Analyse and interpret data to refine technologies, enhancing accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Support the commercialisation of new products and services through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Ensure smooth implementation of new products within the Delivery Team, fostering team autonomy in executing related work.
- Participate in product maintenance and continuous improvement efforts, including conducting gap analyses and validation testing when necessary.
- Develop and refine scientific and technical protocols and documentation.
- Contribute to scientific reports, presentations, and publications.
- Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in a relevant scientific field (preferably in chemistry, biochemistry or a related field).
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a commercial scientific environment, with the ability to confidently apply scientific concepts in this type of setting.
- Proficient in utilising business and collaboration tools, including the Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence) and standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
- Familiarity with R statistical programming is a BIG plus.
- A strong understanding of statistical modeling and data analysis techniques is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to critically think, solve problems creatively, and deliver innovative solutions.
- Ability to investigate processes and data critically and objectively.
- Meticulous attention to detail and objectivity in analysing processes and data.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
- Have a naturally resilient nature and ability to easily adapt when managing multiple time-sensitive projects.
- Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills, underscoring a collaborative spirit.
