Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated engineer to join our team and contribute towards developing and operating our real time communication platform. You would be responsible for developing and operating backend components of a real-time communications platform including but not limited to VoIP softphone, Conferencing, Screen Share, Voicemail, Call Recording, and Restful API Services.
You will be part of a DevOps team made up of diverse individuals with varied experience levels from Junior to Expert. Looking for a Senior Developer to assess the existing platform and work with the team to scale, harden, optimize, and build new features to improve the customer experience. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to make an impact while making meaningful contributions to our expanding Unified Communications business.

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Partners with Engineering Project Manager to provide consultative direction and develops long-term objectives and plans to determine resources, technology, and course of action to achieve results.  

  • Works with Other members of cross-functional teams, joint ventures, third-party vendors and the Company’s product managers and marketing teams to deliver quality products, in a timely fashion, that meet defined requirements.  

  • Establishes and maintains working relationships within product development teams, joint ventures, vendors, and contractors.  

  • Participates in Company product lifecycle process. contributes to and/or creates product and technical requirements, detailed design documents including transaction, capacity and bandwidth models, systems definitions, and operational procedures as part of this process.  

  • Understands key business drivers and applies the knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products and services.  

  • Anticipates and Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements, and identifies solutions.  

  • Ensures that projects are properly accepted into the Engineering team, worked on in a timely and efficient manner, and smoothly transitioned into quality assurance and operations teams. 

  • Interprets internal/external business issues and recommends complete solutions based on best practices and Proven technologies.  

  • Takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.  

  • Provides guidance for the performance and reliability of various cross-platform applications and services. Ensures that system failures are restored in a timely manner.  

  • Participates in the review of failures and Provides feedback to prevent future occurrences.  

Preferred Skills & Experience:  

  • Primary expertise in Java8 

  • Hands-on experience with Open-Source Software 

  • Expertise in consuming and producing REST APIs 

  • Knowledge of VoIP technologies including SIP protocol  

  • Knowledge of telephony software, e.g. Freeswitch, Jitsi, Broadsoft, etc. is a plus  

  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases  

  • Experience working in cloud infrastructures like AWS, Open Stack, and VMware 

  • Experience in SDLC 

  • Code review of peers and junior developers 

  • Scrum experience a plus. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Conducts analysis to determine integration needs.
  • Designs new software and web applications, supports applications under development and customizes current applications. Develops software update process for existing applications. Assists in the roll-out of software releases.
  • Trains junior Software Development Engineers on internally developed software applications.
  • Oversees the researching, writing and editing of documentation and technical requirements, including evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals and formal recommendations and reports.
  • Keeps current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
  • Provides technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior level Software Development Engineers.
  • Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics. Ensures team delivers software on time, to specification and within budget.
  • Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements.
  • Displays expertise in knowledge of engineering methodologies, concepts and skills and their application in the area of specified engineering specialty.
  • Displays expertise in process design and redesign skills. Presents and defends architectural, design and technical choices to internal audiences.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
