Summary: Mechanical Engineer with a focus on product design and development in the performance automotive aftermarket.
Initially, this role will provide legacy product support and new product development with a specialization in CNC machined billet, fabricated, and private branded products with a focus on engine performance accessories. As experience is gained over time, scope of responsibility will expand to include the design and development of castable products such as valve covers, transmission pans, cylinder heads, and intake manifolds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and develop new automotive performance products from concept to production.

Create CAD models and engineering drawings.

Initiate and complete Engineering Change Requests to support legacy product maintenance.

Reverse engineer OEM component architecture as needed to develop compatible performance products.

Determine and specify appropriate materials, finishing and other processing requirements for new products.

Optimize product design for manufacturability, quality, durability, performance, and cost while meeting established specifications.

Determine and specify product BOM’s, components, and accessories.

Develop, define, and assess tests and procedures for product performance and durability validation.

Assist in determining new product requirements, specifications, and cost estimates

Collaborate with Pattern Makers and Manufacturing Engineering to assess the manufacturability of new designs and develop fixturing as needed.

Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering on product quality and product improvement initiatives.

Work with Purchasing and outside vendors for the procurement of samples, pricing and material specifications. Assist with the evaluation of new vendors.

Assist with creation of product technical information, training, and installation documentation.

Conduct design feasibility studies as needed.

Lead technical support for customer issues related to product design.

Work closely with Team Leader on priorities and design reviews.

Competencies:

Competent with 3D CAD modelling software (Solidworks), CMM/laser scanning equipment and other design tools

Strong understanding of automotive engineering, design, and performance principles, particularly internal combustion engines

Highly knowledgeable with hands-on experience of automotive systems, engine assembly, function, and performance modification.

Attention to detail with strong mechanical aptitude.

High level of design creativity and problem-solving ability.

High level of project management and organizational skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate detailed technical concepts.

Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, balancing team and individual responsibilities

Ability and desire to learn from team members, and learn from mistakes with a positive attitude

Takes initiative and ownership of assigned projects, effectively managing time and priorities to hit project timeline goals.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or Associate of Science in Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 2 years of design / product development experience, preferably in the automotive industry. Experience with automotive service and performance modification is highly relevant and preferred.
