About the role
The Virtual Power Plant (VPP) operations team is responsible for managing and growing AGL’s multi-asset Virtual Power Plant.
AGL’s VPP incorporates a variety of assets, from batteries in homes through to backup generators at major commercial & industrial customers as well as large distribution-scale batteries. The team deploys and operates these assets to create value, through participation in energy markets and other programs.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of the next wave of innovation in AGL’s VPP and recognised as the internal go-to for numerous projects. This is an amazing opportunity to gain experience in the emerging field of distributed energy, learn about wholesale markets, consider customer needs, and deliver long-term customer benefits.
The Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Engineer will support the growth and ongoing operations of the VPP
Reporting to the Principal DER Engineer, the DER Engineer is responsible for:
- Acting as a key technical resource working at the intersection of and hardware, software integration and energy market requirements
- Technical analysis, debugging and reporting capability for assets, customer sites and fleets
- Managing registration of new complex assets and sites with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
- Working closely with data science and software development teams to build out AGL’s DER orchestration platforms and enable new assets
- Leading interactions and developing relationships with external parties on AGL’s behalf including partners, vendors, and regulatory bodies
About You
A tertiary qualification in a technical discipline is preferred. This role could be for someone with either hardware, software or data analytics experience - as we work at the intersection of all of these.
To be successful you’ll have demonstrated the following:
- Demonstrated interest in energy markets and policy, although no prior formal experience required
- Understanding of inverter energy systems and/or power networks highly regarded but not essential
- Basic understanding of various software tools and code languages (Python, SQL) highly regarded but not essential
- Experience relevant to engineering delivery and technical project management
