Position Summary

The Case Manager, Accessibility Services is responsible for interpretation and application of the regulations of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and College policies and provisions for accommodation of Dallas College students with disabilities. Accommodations ensure that students with disabilities who experience barriers in the design of College programs, services, and facilities have equal access. This position works with each student and the appropriate stakeholders to develop a plan of action and/or accommodation plan with students experiencing barriers by conducting intakes, collaborating with the student, and reviewing medical documentation to develop the plan of equal access. This position partners with students, faculty, and staff to create a campus community that values the talents and abilities of all people.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is required through professional development activities.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from the full range of diverse populations.

  • An appreciation of shared governance and evidence of strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both within and outside Dallas College.

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student accessibility and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Excellent time management, and organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge and understanding of student development theory; knowledge and understanding of the current issues and trends in student affairs and student development.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the Dallas College community network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with and leverage technology platforms to support students with disabilities.

  • Verify and review all requests for accessibility and disability accommodations; interpret confidential psycho-educational and/or other documentation and make recommendations.

  • Consult with medical professionals and other specialists regarding referrals for accessibility and disability evaluations and appropriate accommodations.

  • Develop, monitor, adjust, and evaluate individual accommodation plans for students based on individual documentation, functional needs, and abilities.

  • Consult with College administration on ADA compliance issues and risk mitigation as related to ADA compliance.

  • Create and maintain a confidential database for student files.

  • Oversee and monitor progress of students with disabilities, helping students to advocate for themselves and to articulate their unique accommodation needs. Provide letters of accommodation to faculty.

  • Assess assistive-technology and adaptive equipment needs and collaborate with IT for support.

  • Provide textbooks in alternative format to students with print disabilities.

  • Provide information to prospective students and parents regarding services provided and disability documentation requirements, as well as respond to public inquiries.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of services through a variety of survey and research methods.

  • Serve on campus committees and workgroups as needed.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates in related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Official Transcripts required.

  • Three (3) years of progressive responsibility in leadership.

  • Experience working with ADA Compliance.

  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills.

  • Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 am to 5:00 pm workday especially during heavy registration peak times including nights and weekends.

  • Position is eligible for flex work with supervisor approval.

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
