Our Colonial Heights, VA location is seeking a Distribution Center Manager responsible for planning and directing all distribution activities including receiving, storing, shipping, routing, handling returned/damaged goods, and administrative tasks to ensure customer and company requirements are met.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)

  • Directs and oversees job assignments and daily schedules to ensure timely and accurate receiving and shipping.
  • Manages, coaches and develops key leaders within the DC, which could include: Inbound, Outbound, and Inventory Manager positions; provides work direction, resolves problems, and sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Directs and oversees all delivery service operations including scheduling drivers, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with all Company regulations and provide Regulatory Affairs with all required reports and logs (as applicable).
  • Ensures a work environment which provides for team spirit, quality work, and safety by: carrying out the Company’s pay-for-performance evaluation system and implementing operating procedures and safety education programs; recruit, train, and provide development opportunities for employees to ensure a motivated and productive work team.
  • Collaborates with key internal partners (Sales, Purchasing, etc.) and seeks feedback to continually exceed and enhance the customer experience.
  • Ensures accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution and retention of Company records and government reports.
  • Ensures appropriate sanitation and pest control of the facility; proper storage and maintenance of tools/equipment; proper salvage/disposal of approved damaged freight; and compliance with applicable government regulations.
  • Ensures all DC personnel maintain a professional and courteous relationship with customers, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains effective and timely communication processes between DC and Company personnel.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate processing of customer product returns.
  • Ensures high inventory accuracy through daily cycle counts, physical inventories, timely inventory adjustments and vendor returns, and actively monitors morgue inventory.
  • Controls DC operating expenditures in accordance with budgetary guidelines: participates with Area and Corporate management in the development of annual operating budgets.
  • Ensures the efficient organization and layout of the distribution center by optimizing processes for receiving, picking, packing, and shipping customer orders.
  • Complies with all directives from Zone and Corporate management concerning the Company’s position and obligations to operate in accordance with applicable local, state, and Federal regulations including FDA, DEA, OSHA, EEO, and DOL.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with preference for a major in Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain, or other business-related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum of five years’ practical warehousing management and/or supervisory experience, including strong personnel management experience in hiring, performance management, disciplinary action, budget development, training, and basic awareness of employment law.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with a pharmacy or pharmaceutical wholesaler/distributor desired.
  • Experience directly managing other associates (team of 10 or more preferred)
  • Green belt or equivalent in Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma preferred
  • Forklift Certification preferred, ability to obtain Forklift Certification required.
  • Must be able to meet any minimum experiential qualification required by any local or state board or licensing agency, as applicable.

COMPETENCIES NEEDED

  • Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and   Outlook)
  • Demonstrated application of inventory control processes, workforce scheduling, budgeting, and expense control experience
  • Experience using RF technology in a distribution environment is preferred
  • Proven ability to develop and operate within a budget and to analyze expense variance and make appropriate adjustments
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented, customer-service driven environment
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, plus good organizational, time management, and motivational skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Covetrus is a federal contractor and abides by the Drug Free Workplace Act (DFWA). In accordance with the DFWA, Covetrus maintains a drug-free workplace.
  • Extensive computer use. 
  • Ability to engage in overnight travel on an as needed basis essential.
  • Ability to lift and transport 30 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50-70 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk on concrete as needed throughout the day and complete tasks that include bending, stooping, and reaching. 
  • May require occasionally working in a cooler environment of 35°- 46° F.
